The videos, which aired during a federal court hearing over Orleans jail reforms, show one inmate shooting up heroin. Others freely snort drugs behind bars and chat on cell phones. Another inmate releases bullets from a long-barreled handgun onto the ground inside the jail, behind bars.

This is not surprising in New Orleans. The majority of citizens are criminals or criminal-connected. The police come from the same ‘hoods’ and the guards in OPP are sitting there to collect a paycheck and either ignore what goes on or get paid by the inmates to bring stuff in for them.
My nephew was a guard there for about 3 months. He’s a big guy and he was afraid for his life. It wasn’t worth it.He told me then that guns, drugs and other contraband was thrown over the wall all day. Other guards let stuff be taken in. He was one of the few white guards and he learned quickly that to try to enforce the rules would have been very bad for his job-and health.
