You are correct. What I should have spelled out is that the best examples on the market are Swiss surplus. Very low mileage and meticulously maintained. The Belgian and French are supposed to be junkers.

I have been thirsting for a radio truck - full body - example for a long time, but Mrs. kitchen insists I first reduce the vehicle stable by five.

Hey, if you like the Pinzgauer, there's a German VW/Audi "jeep" with a bed that accepts a NATO pallet. Full time 4WD, 5 speed with creep, 1.6l diesel. Would make a great little run-about.

Ah, gotcha, that makes lots of sense, on the Swiss milsurp Pinzgauers vs. French/Belgian.

And yeah, that jeep sound fun, but I really don’t have a home for such a beast. And I’m a pretty good Audi wrench, for a DIY type. Do you know if it uses a Torsen center differential, like most Audis of the last 15 or so years, or something else?

WTH? Are you my long lost brother? '69 Bug, 87 5000 CS TQ, '90 80Q, plus others. Half dozen MK 1 GTIs through here, from box stock to 185 hp. Couple WV air cooled and several 1.8 water cooled engines sitting in the garage waiting for homes.

The WV/Audi jeep has a VW engine and that's about all I know. I believe the VW syncro system post dates their introduction so I suspect the trans-axle and differentials are Audi. One poster (in Denver) on a VW forum has one and claims to be at his wits' end trying to match part numbers. I think he's a WV only guy so he might not be looking in the right place. You do have access to the VW/Audi dealer parts inventory system, eh?

ETKA? Yes, I’ve got a version running.

And you’re a LOT more serious than I - but I have done a CV axle recently, have done suspensions and timing belts, and have a small lift in my 2 car suburban garage.

I’ll have to look around for the name of this thing, and see if its in ETKA.
