Ahhh, so what matters is whether government employees believe you have a right to defend yourself and your loved ones?
Do you typically take the “hide in your home” stance when an American is faced with a dangerous threat and must retrieve a means of self-defense?

I Don’t but I don’t live in MA. In MA he’s in trouble just for having a loaded shotgun within reach. I’m just reporting the facts; he’s screwed, it’s a question of how much.

He may be in trouble with The State, but that doesn’t mean that he acted inappropriately.
It is the State, not the man, who is in the wrong.

Well if you want to live on a quarter acre lot with a panicy guy next door shooting a shotgun he didn’t, by his own admission, aim, my advice would be to not spend a lot on windows.

Ahh, so now he's a panicy guy liable to shoot off a shotgun at any time without warning. How fastening that you continue to try to paint him as in the wrong. Unlike you, I don't blame a man for panicking when a fully grown bear is charging at him (or on his property). I remind you that one of our own took down an attacking bear with a knife. (Hello, Kanawa: for any noobs or lurkers reading this:
Man (Freeper Kanawa) stabs bear to death) I expect his sensible, conservative neighbors are grateful there is one fewer aggressive bear which could have easily have tried to attack one of their children playing outside. You seem determined to cast the blame on the victim of a bear attack, and not cast the blame on government employees who dare to place the value of a bear above the value of a man.

Okay, like a dog with a bone, you want to keep playing with this one. Go ahead, leave me out if it. But do get back to me if you find a skeet range with 1/4 acre zoning

Your pardon, I should have said “a knife and a wonderful dog”.

Police dont believe the bear was a threat to people. The same police who claim to have no obligation to actually "protect?" But they will collect your body in their spiffy SWAT outfits and deliver it to the coroner, whether the result of a human criminal or a bear. That police?
Ask for a jury trial, and then sue these megalomaniacs for malicious prosecution, pain and suffering. No fair impartial jury would convict. If I am dispensing "benefit of doubt," human or bear would be a no-brainer. Specially if the humans are paying my salary.

Judging from your screen name, you must consider the State. Once you marry men with men, its all downhill.
