America could use a Rommel about now, since the political class has succeeded in weeding out the heroes and left all the political generals who aren’t worth a damn!
I don't think we need any generals exactly like Rommel. After all, he did swear an oath of allegiance to Adolf Hitler and he did use his considerable abilities to keep the Third Reich afloat as long as he could. I'm sure there are plenty of capable and aggressive senior officers in all branches of the U.S. military who are motivated by duty, honor and love of country. We might not know their names because they don't appear frequently on the evening news or the New York Times.
