Time Magazine releases list of 100 most influential in the world
Toronto Star ^ | 04/18/2013 | : Alex Ballingall

The TIME 100 list of the most influential people in the world has been released, and typically, there are no Canadians.

Toronto writer Sheila Heti, author of the sexy, musing semi-autobiographical novel How Should a Person Be? How Should a Person Be? was Canada’s great hope, having made the short list of nominees. But when the Time editors sat down to determine which figures hold sway over (mostly American) political, social and cultural spheres, Heti was shorn from the list.

Canadians Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney, and Justin Bieber made the list in 2010 and 2011 respectively. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the widely-referenced list. To celebrate, the magazine has rolled out seven separate editions for the list, each bearing the image of one of the more notable influential figures from the 2013 group. This includes the godfather of hip hop Jay-Z, U.S. Senator Rand Paul, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, Indian movie star Aamir Khan, Pakistani schoolgirl and education activist Malala Yousafzai, SpaceX founder entrepreneur Elon Musk and Chinese tennis star Li Na.

So Times Editors, Lefties all, either pick the obvious or the liberal. How delightful.

These guys miss the big trends, year after year.

Two names missing, each from opposite ends of the good/evil spectrum. One is our humble host, JimRob, and the other is Obama’s puppet-master, Soros.

RE: I don’t think anyone is influenced by Justin Beeber

You might want to change your mind on that, for better or for worse, HE INFLUENCES THE YOUNG ONES.

He went to Norway for a concert which coincided with the schedule for midterm tests in 5 schools in that country.

RESULT: The schools re-scheduled the midterms so that students can have fun and attend his concert.

Read all about it here:

Norway schools cave to Justin Bieber tour and reschedule midterms

Thanks but no thanks. The list is probably infested with communists, liberals and Muslims.

“Influenced” used to mean something different I guess.

All those Beeberheads are no different now than before they heard of him. They don’t act or believe differently than before.

Popularity is not “influence”

What has he influenced them to do?

Governor Palin’s Tribute to Senator Rand Paul

Posted on April 18 2013 - 2:28 PM - Posted by: | Follow Stacy on Twitter!

Governor Palin wrote an excellent tribute to Senator Rand Paul for Time Magazine’s “The 2013 TIME 100″ published today:

When the Tea Party movement wanted to send a message to the Senate in 2010, it elected a clear-sighted eye doctor from the Bluegrass State. In a D.C. too often defined by the venal equivocations of a permanent political class more interested in consolidating its own power than in upholding the Constitution or defending the common good, Senator Rand Paul is a voice of reason awakening the public to what must be done to restore our prosperity and preserve the blessings of liberty for future generations. His brand of libertarian-leaning conservatism attracts young voters, and recently he inspired the nation with his Capraesque filibuster demanding basic answers about our use of drones. I sent him some caribou jerky from Alaska to help keep up his strength on the Senate floor. There’s more where that came from for this bold Senator with 20/20 vision willing to take a stand for liberty.

RE: What has he influenced them to do?

He influenced the Norwegian Schools to re-schedule their midterms because of his mere presence.

Of course it’s a BAD thing, but TIME did not say that the influence is all for the good.

It’s like their PERSON OF THE YEAR — a person, group, idea or object that “for BETTER or for WORSE, ...has done the most to influence the events of the year.

I’m (sob!) not one it again this year. I don’t get it - I influence people. I mean, revulsion is an influence.

I haven’t heard of most of those people. The list is just silly. And the only Justin I see on the list is Justin Timberlake. Why he influences people is beyond me.

What a totally lame list!

At least Hitlery or the most beautiful Chelsea didn’t make the cut.

Many years ago I read an article which said the Chairman of the House Committee on appropriations would always be one of the most important people in the nation.

I don’t even know who it is.
