FREMONT, Neb. (AP) -- Natura Pet Products is expanding a recall of dry pet foods over a possible salmonella risk to animals and people.

The company, a unit of Procter & Gamble Co., first announced a voluntary recall in March of its dog, cat and ferret foods because they may be contaminated with salmonella bacteria. The company's recall now includes all dry pet food products and treats with expiration dates prior to and including March 24, 2014.

A complete list of the recalled foods is available online at http://www.naturapet.com/ . Customers should throw away affected pet foods. More information is available from Natura at (800) 224-6123.

These are suppose to be “good” food too. Geesh.
I wonder if they get their products for this food grown here or China?

Very important. Slings, please ping doggy people as well. I don’t believe we have a ferret ping.

For those who have any of the possibly tainted product, rather than following the recall directions (printing out a form, cutting off the lot number and the UPC and in the process, possibly exposing you to contaminated product), you can call 800-224-6123 and speak to their product support line and get replacement coupons mailed out to you.

I do not understand, especially in the age of most consumers having a digital camera, why they would even request customers to handle potentially dangerous product to cut out UPC and lot numbers, and then mail it to them. I’d hate to be the unlucky person selected to open up recall mail, not to mention that it is probably a federal crime to mail paper that may be laced with salmonella.

Doggy people pinged. No ferret ping list, but we should have one just to p*ss Rudy Giuliani off.

Yes, they are premium dog foods. For many years I fed my dogs Innova but as they got older I had to switch to another brand (for heart conditions). I still offer them Innova wet dog food (to entice their eating the dry food).

When the 2007 outbreak of bad food from China occurred I talked to the Innova folks, who assured me that they did not get anything from China. Their food ingredients come from the USA.

” No ferret ping list”.

How ‘bout a “Slime Weasel” ping list for egregious offenders against the Constitution?

But that was before Natura was bought by Proctor & Gamble in 2010. Where do they get their ingredients from now?

Good question. All I know is that the person at Innova I spoke with told me that they then used American-based ingredients and would not ever use foreign sources.

I think I need to go back to them and check on the current source of the ingredients in their dry and wet dog foods. Natura is based in California and it’s 6:45 in the morning there now.

I’ll report back what I find.

Frankly the last big shake-up with animal food was products made in the Carolinas. We’re not perfect.
