Dzhokhar Tsarnaev managed to drive a short distance before abandoning the SUV and running away. Hours later, he was cornered in the backyard of a Watertown house, hiding in the back of a boat.

The police knew the bomber had abandoned the SUV....i.e., they found it.
The bomber was bleeding.
Why not use a dog? A dog would have tracked him down mighty quick.
Why choose to invade hundreds of houses, and point guns in innocent people's faces?...when the could have just used a dog?
They had the SUV, and surely his scent - since he was bleeding. And on Saturday, I saw coverage of some drops of blood behind a shop - they actually had a blood trail.
But the decision was made to do the house to house searches.
Why not follow the blood trail?
Older brother is already in hell.
Younger brother is hopoefully headed for a waterboard.
Life is good.
I’ve been thinking the same thing all weekend. Where were the dogs?
The dogs were apparently searching elsewhere (conveniently) and according to one naive FReeper, they couldn’t be everywhere. Truth is, they didn’t want to offend the Muslim terrorist community.
I want to hear someone ask this at a press conference.
I assure you - younger brother won’t get waterboarded.
And I don’t know if ‘life is good’, after seeing that enormous display of police force and disreguard for people’s rights....you know, the right to not have an AR-15 pointed in your face as you are jerked out of your home, and frog-marched away.
I understand the police don’t need a warrant, if they are ‘in pursuit’. But, to me that presumes that they are reasonably sure the perp is actually in your house - not a neighborhood wide fishing expedition.
And, shouldn’t the police use more precise tactics, like the tried and true dog, to narrow things down?
MA had a blizzard this year (not the first time that's happened). The governor ordered everyone off the roads. That has not happened in MA before. The blizzard was not the worst one we've ever had, but the government was able to test the concept that "We can shut down transportation if we try."
The Boston area had a 19-year-old suspect who went missing. As you say, he was bleeding, and likely on foot. A dog could have found him quickly. But the government put the region on lock-down. The government was able to test the concept that "We can shut down an entire region if we try."
This is about training the law enforcement people, working the bugs out of the plan, and de-senstizing the population. "Oh? Another lock-down? Yawn. I wonder who they're looking for this time?"
They are practicing for when TSHTF. Note: I don't say that the original bombing was an act by the government. I say that the government lets no crisis go to waste. Like Sandy Hook and gun control, when something bad happens, the government is adept at saying, "How can we use this?"
More's the pity.
“The dogs were apparently searching elsewhere (conveniently)”
I can see the story is already being shaped - ‘All the dogs were off looking for bombs’. Never mind that’s a completely different specialty.
When it was the typical situation where a citizen simply tipped the cops off to this little criminals location.
Why would they riddle #1 with bullets?
Wouldn't they want him to spill his beans rather than his guts?
No dogs means when they finally reach #2 he will be dead.
How's come?
Life is not so good, read at the Blaze.
Ya had a billion dollars in law enforcement resources, and thousands of cops in the immediate area, and #2 being pursued at the time, got away.
Look at this video of house searches at gunpoint in MA. The terrorists have won, the police state is here. Seriously, what can you do when the whole block is filled with jackboots who have no problem with dragging kids out of homes at gunpoint?
“The new normal” indeed...

Their mechanic said they were running on NY plates.
I would assume that they did use dogs, and did follow the trail, but the trail went cold.
Your questions are spot on! The obvious answer is because they didn’t want to. They wanted to close down Boston and the burbs. They wanted a huge show of force complete with armored vehicles, and house to house searches. They just proved to all of us that they can do it. That people really are sheep and that the vast majority of us will do what we’re told, when we’re told to do it! Makes me sick!
Well you can’t find guns in peoples house by order of the Kenyan unless you search all the houses.
I agree completely!
