Mom Used Her Infant's Name to Open Cable Account, Deputies Say
Sun-Sentinel ^ | April 29, 2013 | Barbara Hijek

In February deputies recieved a complaint that Jamie Sue Bledsoe may have used the name of her infant to open an account with Bright House Networks, a cable company, according to a news release from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

An investigation by detectives showed that the cable account had indeed been opened at Bledsoe's address in Brooksville. Copies of the installation work order that were signed when the equipment had been installed at the home revealed that Bledsoe had actually signed the infant’s name as the customer's signature as well as provided her driver license number on the form as verification, the release stated.

Too bad the technician failed to recognize that the signature and the name on the driver's licenese wasn't a match.

Glad to see the police are starting to take this stuff seriously, I know of several parents that used their kids names and SS numbers to get utilites turned on, because they had stiffed the companies and owed a ton of back money

Hey. As long as I don’t have to subsidize their losses, they can be as stupid as they want. If they want to open accounts in the names of infants and dogs and then are unable to collect when the “customer” runs up a bill and doesn’t pay, so be it. That is their stupidity. We used to see the same thing with credit card companies. But if they come to Washington moaning for a taxpayer bailout at some point, then I will be pissed.

Good question ~ I think it's for rent ~ but 10 years ago I used to ride into DC on the same metro train as her quite frequently. Some of these people who expect to 'go far' in a federal police agency do this ~ among other things ~ so that you and I can't track them down later.

Sorry, that didn't work this time. Tracked her down in under a half hour.

14 million illegals are using the SSN and names of Americans but that's no big deal.

Good thing we're cracking down on someone that may run up a cable bill

They just tack the loss on to your cable bill.

So you are paying for it.

Is she allowed to buy baby food in the infant’s name though?

An ex of mine used to own rental properties - the lower income type. Well, he had a few tenets, one in particular, who used to use their kids names to sign up for utilities and the telephone. The worst scam the one woman used to do was to let teen aged street kids “move in” and she would put their names on the utilities. The bills would be ignored, and when the utilities were shut off, she’d get a new runaway to move in and get everything put in their names. She lived like that for years. Back then the electric and gas co. would let customers ride for up to six months on overdue accounts. Now I think they shut off services at the end of two months. Back in the day the utilities didn’t collect SS numbers or DL numbers, so the low income crowd had all kinds of tricks.

That's quite an accomplishment for an infant to already have a driver's license. Precocious, to say the least. :=)
