Screen Rant ^

Posted on 05/03/2013 6:08:16 AM PDT by Perdogg

When Hans Zimmer was invited by Zack Snyder to compose the score for this summer’s comic book movie blockbuster, Man of Steel, he admitted to being so daunted by the challenge of living up to John Williams’ legacy that he procrastinated for three months before finally throwing himself fully into the task.

I’ve always liked that one. I think I first heard it in college, from a Theory/Comp professor.

The only flaw, (and it is a big one) in the original Superman movie was in the flight love scene between Superman and Lois Lane, they don’t play the song, just Margo Kidder voicing her thoughts, which are the words of the song. Ugh.

“One of these days, you and I are going to have a serious disagreement.”

Sorry, your posts made me think of another movie to quote.

I think #17 “The Visitation Of Saint Ursula” is one of the most beautiful developments I’ve heard in a very long time. I also love the piano segment of #17, “The Last Night”. Burwell is an extremely gifted man, I think. I’ve got to check out some of his other work.

Best to you both.

I actually don’t see that as a problem. Just poetry being spoken. Kind of neat actually.

I was privileged to attend a college where most of my teachers were also friends and peers. Class or lessons during the week, and gig together on weekends.

And we were always able to tell the two apart, we were professional, there was never a problem.

Makes me want to see the movie.

(I KNOW it’s probably revisionist!)

The more news I hear about the "Man of Steel" reboot, the worst it gets.

The latest rumor is Superman's origin story has been altered so Krypton was NOT destroyed, and he was merely sent to Earth because he was born naturally on Krypton instead of being genetically engineered, so he was an outcast among his people.

Apparently the creative team behind this movie thinks if you rehash the SAME plot and villains that have been done a zillion times before, BUT alter elements of it that worked great the first time around, you can sell the lame rehashed plot as a "fresh take" on the character. Thus, Perry White is now played by Lawrence Fishburne, Jimmy Olsen is now a female "Jenna Olsen", etc., all these ridiculous alterations are supposed to draw us to a movie that is needlessly recycling a storyline that was already done perfectly in Superman I & II.

Definitely won't be seeing Man of Steel now. I wonder what bad news will come out about this film next?

I'll all for a "fresh take" on Superman... keeping the iconic stuff like the John Williams score but giving us a NEW challenge for Superman and NEW foes to face. Unfortunately these guys are doing the OPPOSITE of that.

I couldn’t get into Superman because he was too powerful and indestructible. I like the more human characters like Spiderman and Ironman. I’m middle aged, but I’m really enjoying these eye-popping CGI remakes. My favorites so far have been Spiderman II (still can’t get over the trolley chase) and Ironman I.

Brahms regarded his Hungarian Dances as adaptations and didn’t even assign them an Opus number.

He was honest about his sources, by not calling it his Opus.

And when Mel Brooks “composed” “Hope For the Best, Expect the Worst”, he credited Brahms! (From Hungarian Dance #2) LOL!

Agreed. Have several of his soundtracks and live compilations. Gladiator will always be my favorite.

I seem to remember agreeing heartily with most things I have read o* yours. I am surprised to hear you say that scene was
“vomit-inducing”. I won’t ask you to watch it again. One man’s gnat is another man’s camel.
What did you think o* 2 movies which rank near the top in my estimation, assuming you’ve seen them?
Wings o* Desire, (1987) and The Double Li*e o* Veronique?
(As you see, I don’t have the letter a*ter “e”.)
