Justin Bieber Earns Turkish Fans’ Respect by Stopping Show for Muslim Prayer Calls – Twice!

By Laura Ferreiro

Justin Bieber made thousands of Turkish fans into Beliebers when he stopped his concert in Turkey to honor the Azan, or the Muslim call to prayer, on Thursday.

Also known as the Adhan, the prayer call is traditionally observed by Muslims five times a day, including just after sunset and later in the evening, before bedtime.

According to E!, Bieber's Turkish fans were "shocked and delighted" at when he halted the show at Istanbul's ITU Stadium, and thanked him for being "respectful" and a "great man." Other fans took to Twitter to praise his "good manners" and pointed out that many Muslim performers don't go to such great lengths.

He probably had to take a break because of the previous evening’s ninepins.

Thanks Steelfish.

I have no problem with a performer showing respect for his audience’s culture, any more than I would object to the Canadian anthem being played at U.S. vs Canadian team hockey matches.

Any excuse to take a few tokes in the middle of the show.

He’s got quite a load there. His bodyguards are battling the crowds and clearing a path to the restroom?

Give him credit where credit is do..

Pretty farsighted of him to act like a dhimma this far ahead before Shari law is implemented in Europe when he tours there...in this future...

> How many Christians actually have such restrictions about the Sabbath? How many churches actually teach that you can’t go to a concert on the Sabbath?

I imagine the same folks who brought you the so-called Blue Laws in many countries including the U.S. include some Christians. In the U.S. most such laws have been turned over or are simply disregarded, but that's not true in many other countries.

I'd bet these days most American Christians aren't even aware that there were such laws. Might be interesting to look up the history of Blue Laws and see if they forbade public entertainment on the Sabbath. I wouldn't be surprised if they did in the past.

That said, such laws can't hold a candle to Sharia and so forth, for sheer oppressive restrictions.
