I know who wrote it...but I just commented that Alan Jackson sung it at the end of George Jones Funeral.

I hope they release the rest of the performance. I watched most of the procession to the burial site. Metro did a very good job of clearing the roads.

RIP George Jones.

I missed the funeral. I’m in Charlotte and worked that morning.

This was played at my husband’s aunt’s funeral this morning. Beautiful, heavenly song. Has made me cry since the year it was released- the year my best friend was murdered.

Love how Patty carried the song when Vince Gill wasn’t too choked up with tears to cry.

I logged in to WSMV. They covered it online. I lived in Nashville for a number of years. I was just wondering what was still on and the procession was going on. It went for 45 minutes or so and the feed was lost.

Agreed. George Jones was a great one. He, Hank Williams and Patsy Cline were the absolute pinnacle. They lived their art. It was genuine.

The recorded version on CD has Vince Gill singing the lead with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Lovelace singing the back ups. The song iniatally was about Gill’s brother but also was about Keith Whitley a friend to both Gill and Skaggs.

I was watching Country Family Reunion last night a show that comes on RFD TV. It showed a lot of the older singers sitting around telling stories and singing. It’s a regular series on that network. Roy Clark was on last night as well as Gene Watson and Jim Ed Brown. Roy was looking real frail.

How fitting that Patty Loveless performed. She is one of the last “Old Country” style singers.

R.I.P. Jones.
