How do we know he didn’t accidentally shoot himself?
I doubt it. I bet one of those automatic assault rifles automatically assaulted him.
So didn't the sheriff arrest him? Didn't the sheriff retrieve the gun from the mud and confiscate it? Didn't your friend have to sober up in the pokey, after being drunk and disorderly, trespassing on private property, and then assaulting and attacking (albeit with an unloaded gun) a peaceable Colored family?
Your friend's story, as it stands, doesn't pass the B.S. test!
Regards,
Well it may not pass the BS test to YOU but the man sat there and told us the story to our face. There were others at the table with us.
I had known him for years from Basic till discharge. He could get drunk on three beers and spent a large amount of time off duty drunk.
NOW, think back to 1968! Here are MORE details.
White man with gun whose family is a friend of the white GA sheriff.
Gets arrested and instead of being taken to Jail, he was taken home where he sobered up.
The gun was recovered from the dirt and given back to the man’s family who promptly returned it to the man when he was sober.
He told me he was so glad he had shot up his loads before he pulled it on the black farmer and tried to kill him.
So I really don’t give a hoot if YOU believe it or not. He sat there and told us the story when drunk, and I saw and handled the revolver before and after he got back from leave. That is when I asked him how it got so scratched up. The scratches still had red GA clay in them.
When sober he could not remember a word of it.
Maybe he shot himself pulling his pistol out of his baggy pants and now can’t remember who shot him.
Take it easy, Ruy! I didn't cast aspersions upon your honesty! I merely noted that your friend's story - as it stood - awakened the skeptic in me.
Now that you've filled in the missing details, it sounds much more credible.
Regards,
