It IS farts, and also belches; but it is Pellucidarian sheep and cows creating it. Methane rises, and is rising through the rocky roof of Pellucidar, to pollute our world and create global warming. It is a long term, insidious plan to weaken Humanity so we can be invaded.
The "mysterious booms" reported from many places around the world are caused Pellucidarians fracking their roof, to release more gas to the surface world.
