The Boy Scouts ask conservative activist Ralph Reed to set up meetings with Christian leaders...
WORLD Magazine ^ | 5/13/2013 | Warren Cole Smith

Posted on 05/14/2013 8:26:16 AM PDT by MacNaughton

Sometime during the week of May 20, about 1,400 delegates representing Boy Scout troops from across the country will gather in Texas and vote on a proposed policy that, if passed, would allow openly homosexual boys to be Scouts while continuing a ban on homosexual leaders. Most conservative Christians oppose the proposal, so the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have engaged a high-profile advisor to help them make their case: Ralph Reed.

WORLD learned that Reed, founder of the Christian Coalition and now president of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, has arranged meetings and conference calls between Christian conservative leaders and BSA officials who support the pro-gay resolution. According to John Stemberger, founder of OnMyHonor.Net, a group opposed to the policy change, “After the introduction is made, the BSA officials try to convince these top conservative evangelical leaders to support the resolution by finding friendly media venues to discuss it.”

Reed confirmed in a phone conversation with me that he had arranged conference calls in an attempt to be a “peacemaker” in the process. He said he had not personally participated in the calls and acknowledged he is paid a small retainer by the Boy Scouts. Reed would not disclose the amount of his fee except to characterize it as “de minimus.” “[I would] deeply resent any implication that I am helping this policy to pass.” he added. “I am on record opposing a change in the current policy. Period.”

Stemberger, though, called Reed’s comment “doubletalk.” Regardless of Reed’s intention, Stemberger said, “these calls could not help but further the resolution.”

Among the conference calls Reed has set up, one was between the BSA and executives at Salem Communications, the largest Christian radio company in the country. Salem executives had no comment on the content of those calls but published a short editorial statement that aired on most of Salem’s approximately 100 radio stations. Read by Dr. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and a member of Salem’s editorial board, the statement said in part:

“The central authorities of the Boy Scouts of America have announced yet another compromise position on how they propose to deal with the issue of homosexual leaders and Scouts. This came just a year after the Boy Scouts insisted that it would stand behind its ban on openly gay scouts and scouting leaders. But then, earlier this year, they floated a compromise policy amounting to a ‘local option’ for troops. After the outrage from that proposal, the new proposed policy will require all troops to accept boys without regard to sexual orientation, but they will retain an outright ban on openly homosexual adults serving as scout leaders. As one mother said, ‘I knew they would try to split the baby in the end.’ And that’s exactly what they have attempted to do again. In the end, it will please no one.”

UPDATE: In an email to WORLD, Ralph Reed stressed “my 43-year involvement in the Boy Scouts, the fact that I am an Eagle Scout, [and] the fact that I sit on the executive board of one of the most respected local councils in the country [the North Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts (– incorrect – it is either the Northeast Georgia Council or the Northwest Georgia Council)].” He said his role was to “facilitate a dialogue.” Neither Reed nor the Boy Scouts would say how much the organization is paying Reed.

So the leadership of the BSA has gone homo? Letting openly gay scouts in so they can abuse in perfect freedom.

Looks like it’s time for BSA to clean house at the national level. These people have ALREADY violated the oath!

If they allow gay scouts, it’s only a matter of time before that extends to allowing gay Scout leaders.

Absolutely. After a homosexual-identifying scout grows up in the organization and wants to move into leadership, it's only one lawsuit away.

Look at the past connections between Ralph Reed, Jack Abramoff and Grover Norquist.

The kid is seventeen today and a scout.

He turns 18 today and becomes an assistant scoutmaster.

It happens a lot in big, strong troops

Sodomy is so serious a character flaw that the Good Lord himself decreed death for its practioners. Christ would have merely added the proviso regarding an opportunity to REPENT(stopping the practice.)In my youth homosexual sodomy was a crime. Under financial pressure in our state the greedy representatives decriminalized the vice.

Illustrative of the true meaning of current buzz words; i.e. dialogue, debate, discussion all which assume there is something to "discuss," "debate," or conduct a "dialogue."

See tagline.

The Girl Scouts went to the dark side years ago. You knew the Boy Scouts would follow, right? Home school and found new programs for kids. Raise your children the way you want, not what the way the world dictates.

Another movement to pave the way for the sodomites to have access to other people’s young boys. Seem to do well for the Catholic Church so now let the coprophiliacs work their disgusting deviance on a new crowd of boys. Satan and Sandusky must be smiling.

I guess the homos are pushing their agenda through the children.

I don’t ever recall sexuality being a factor for any of my childhood activities. The entire issue of qualifying juvenile sexuality should be pulled off the table. It’s completely inappropriate in a traditional, moral sense as far as I’m concerned.

BSA should not be responsible for identifying and isolating children using sexual criteria.

Any homo org that insists on pushing its agenda through the kids should be figuratively kicked in the teeth.

>> BSA officials who support the pro-gay resolution

Fight these “pro-gay”, sexually obsessed scumbags.

I honestly don’t think a teen is capable of making the decision to be gay. The gay Scout in my troop has gone back to being hetero.
F’ed up family life has him all confused.

Honestly, I’d rather know than not know. Hidden gay scout leaders have plagued Boy Scouts forever.

Just remember, Jerry Sandusky was married to a woman, a lot of the perverts are not going to come out and say they’re gay.

Yeah, it’s a mess. The two-deep leadership keeps the molestations away.

If a Scout tells me he is gay, I assume he just wants attention. Most of the “gay” Scout leaders I have encountered have been women. They like the butch uniform.

. . . a proposed policy that, if passed, would allow openly homosexual boys to be Scouts while continuing a ban on homosexual leaders.

Show me any openly homosexual boy and I'll show you one who, no way in hell, can keep the "morally straight" part of the scout oath.

A teenager confused about his sexuality and able to keep it on the shelf for a few years until he matures, maybe. An open homosexual, no way.

They don't belong in the Boy Scouts for the same reason they don't belong in the military-- because they can't STFU about it.

Tell me how long I would last in private industry if I went about proclaiming how much I enjoyed hetrosexual sex, in the missionary position, and needed to get it at least 2-4 times per week.

13 What happened?
Follow the money.

1980 - The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) was founded. It is the largest LGBTQ equality-rights advocacy group and political lobbying organization in the U.S.

2002 – The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) published its 1st Corporate Equality Index. It is a tool to rate American businesses on their treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors. The Corporate Equality Index chooses companies to rank, and rates them on a scale of 0 to 100 based on flexible criteria grounded in the "10 principles" of the Equality Project.

Many companies are pressured to change policies that have earned them a poor score on the index, due to bad press. This has led to a competitive atmosphere among businesses to stay current in the latest LGBT-related inclusive policies. Larger corporations are much more likely to change LGBT-related policies as a result of the index than small or medium companies are. The Human Rights Campaign focuses on larger companies in the CEI, so smaller businesses are subject to little public backlash due to the efforts of the Human Rights Campaign and the index.

The 2012 HRC CQI report rated 636 companies of which 190 scored 100 %. Eighty-eight of the Fortune 500 companies received perfect scores - which was even more rigorous this time around because the top rating required employers to extend health insurance coverage without exclusions to transgender employees. The 1 glaring exception to this trend remained Irving (TX)-based ExxonMobil. It was the only company to get a negative rating in the index, out of 636 that were scored, including all those on the Fortune 500 list. By comparison, half of the companies in the top 20 of the Fortune 500 list received perfect scores.

1. Randall Stephenson, CEO of AT&T, based in Dallas, TX (same metropolitan area as the BSA National HQ, i.e., Irving). He currently sits on the BSA National Executive Committee and is expected to be elected BSA National (volunteer) President in 2014. He came out in support of homosexuals in BSA in the summer of 2012. AT&T scored a 100 on the 2012 HRC Corporate Equality Index.

2. James Turley, CEO of Ernst & Young, sits on the BSA National Executive Committee. He voiced his support for homosexuals in the BSA in the summer of 2012. E&Y scored a 100 on the 2012 HRC Corporate Equality Index (for the 6th consecutive year).

3. Rex Tillerson, CEO of Exxon, curently sits on the BSA National Executive Committee and is the immediate past National (volunteer) President. He has worked actively behind the scene to convince conservative church Scouting organizations to support homosexuals in Scouting.
