Want to know why you should always avoid big brown grizzly bears? Well this terrifying footage gives you an idea.
Nature photographer Brad Josephs was filming for a BBC special in the Alaska peninsula when the hungry mammal decided he wanted a bit of privacy.
The bear inspects the camera (Picture: YouTube / Brad Josephs) The filmmaker hoped to capture some close-up shots of the bear but got a little more than he bargained for when the animal attempted to swallow his expensive equipment.
‘When using a GoPro to capture unusually close footage of grizzly bears for the Great Bear Stakeout for BBC, I had a young bear actually chew on the camera,’ he explained.
The grizzly chomps on the camera (Picture: YouTube / Brad Josephs) ‘Amazingly there was no damage to the camera! Some of this clip appears in the film Great Bear Stakeoout on BBC and Discovery Channel.’
‘The bear only gently mouthed the camera, and didn’t even put a dent in it!’ he added on his website. ‘Obviously the card was fine, and I actually used the camera many more times.’

The clip, entitled A grizzly ate my GoPro!!!, has already racked up more than 200,000 hits on YouTube.
Now we MAY never know if they go in the woods.
I watched this program when it aired on Discovery. I cannot recall the name of it, but I remember watching the escapades of two seemingly psychopathic grizzlies named Van and Alice.
It is really hard to think of anything in nature more impressive than the grizzly bear.

It looks like a bear caught a salmon or trout at the end of that video.. Remarkably good teeth inside that mouth. Majorly intimidating!!

I am not certain that I’ve ever heard of this before, but I am certain I would not be swimming by it’s mouth :O
I am also a huge admirer of polar bears, such incredible animals. Sadly I do not get to see enough about whales although there was this one program on Discovery this past year which showed a very large whale attempting to feed on large spiraling masses of fish.
This whale would open its mouth and charge them with his belly looking like it filled with all the water in the ocean but not a single fish.
It wasn’t until both sharks and seagulls joined in on feeding on these fish that their spiraling patterns were interrupted enough so that the whale could successfully gulp them.
I had never seen anything like that before, absolutely mind blowing!
Bears are not warm fuzzy cuddly friends.

Expensive equipment? Really?
While I would be a bit disgruntled if my GoPro were devoured by a grizzly, a GoPro is hardly "expensive equipment" compared with typical professional video cameras...
Everyone should visit Alaska once before they die. An amazing and beautiful state. (go during the summer solstice, you can read a newspaper at midnight outside, the sun never goes completely down at that time)
My mother had an opportunity to go to Kodiak , Alaska in 1980 I believe it was. My stepfather was stationed up there and invited her.
She said it was incredible. She saw what she said was an artic fox, went fishing for salmon and caught one. She said she hooked the salmon through a gil and reeled it in. I think that may be illegal now but not sure if it was then, but she didn’t purposely hook it like that.
She also came secured a box of Alaskan king crab. She got it back to Louisiana somehow, but I cannot remember since I was only 10 at the time. She also came home with my little brother in the oven.
Having recently enjoyed some keta salmon from there, I do believe I would go there and camp myself next to a river and fight it out with the bears over the fish, because that is quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life.
Lol. This is why Canon makes a 600mm lens.
