An Athens man was arrested early Monday morning after assaulting his bride before their honeymoon even began, Athens-Clarke police said. Erick Lamar Stevens, 25, dragged his new wife by the hair, bit and punched her in the face, and pulled out her hair weaves during an altercation at Country Inn & Suites on Old Epps Bridge Road that was reported at 1:45 a.m., police said.
The hotel clerk called 911 after the 31-year-old victim came to the lobby with a bleeding nose and still wearing her wedding dress, according to police.
The assault happened after a reception at an unnamed location, police said, during which Stevens allegedly got mad because the DJ was making advances on a bridesmaid. He got more belligerent as the night went on, police said.
On the drive to the hotel Monday morning, he punched his wife in the face during an argument in which he accused her of cheating on him, police said.
At some point, the victim stopped the car and forced Stevens out. Police said she then drove to the hotel alone to go to bed. The night clerk later phoned the womans room to let the her know Stevens had arrived and the woman agreed to allow in the room, according to police.
But as soon as Stevens got to the room, he charged the victim, grabbed her by the hair, then punched and bit her several times, police said. When the woman tried to leave the room, Stevens allegedly dragged her by the hair to a corner to apparently keep her from leaving.
While assaulting his wife, police said, Stevens ultimately pulled out all of her (hair) extensions, which officers later found on the floor and on a night stand.
When someone went to the room to investigate the disturbance, the victim used the opportunity to escape and went to the hotel lobby to ask a clerk to call 911, police said.
An officer noted in the incident report that the bridge of the victims nose was cut, her eye was swollen, and one of her wrists was beginning to swell, police said.
Emergency medical personnel inspected the wrist and thought it might possibly be broken. She was taken for treatment at a local hospital, police said.
Stevens, of Spring Valley Road, was charged under the state Family Violence Act with battery and false imprisonment. He was detained without bail Tuesday afternoon at the Clarke County Jail.

There are times when an annulment is the right answer.
He’s Amish...must be a cultural thing.....
I’m sure this can all be worked out with counseling..... /sarc
Used to be a time when a man was old enought to get married, he had matured enough to control his temper. The more I see of young men these days, the less impressed I am.
I know, I’m a grumpy old man.
Their 1st wedding anniversary party should be a doozie.
They are still together aren’t they? /sarc
Definitely not off to a good start for the “and lived happily thereafter.”
Don't be foolish. This happened in Athens; they're obviously Greek Orthodox.
You should form an opinion of “modern” women before judging anyone that smacks them.
All of them? I think not.

Agreed but I’m a guy and it makes comparisons a bit easier if I look at the “men” my daughters date. Most are fine but they all need to grow up a whole lot.
You got that right.
It’s not just something new with women now days, it started big time in the 1970’s when women decided they could do anything a man could do.
A marriage that can’t make it through the first honeymoon night?
What does this say about the reverence couples should hold for the sacrament of marriage?
Really. I know marriages can plunge I to great troubles, troubles only their vow to God can overcome, but the honeymoon ? Really?
I know how this happened.
Seems the groom was inthe hotel room, looking through wet bar refrigerator.
He slammed it shut just as his bride walked in.
She sweetly asked him what was wrong.
He screamed “You were suppose to make me sandwiches and pit some cold beer in here!!! #%%&** I’m starving! Is this what a husband is suppose to except?”
Aaaaand thatz how it started....
“I know, Im a grumpy old man.”

Me too, old men have always said that the young generation has gone to hell in a handbasket but this may be the first time the old men have been right.
