Were used to hearing that Republicans are the anti-science party, but that criticism is especially hard to take in light of Rep. Raúl Grijalvas new video, warning of the dangers of building the Keystone XL pipeline. Weve also been assured that conservatives dont understand the nuances of metaphor, but theres just something about Grijalva playing politics while wearing a borrowed lab coat and pretending to be a scientist that makes you miss Al Gores relatively sophisticated hucksterism. The videos so bad, in fact, that the National Republican Congressional Committee is urging people to view it, calling it a must watch. Spoiler: the rocks sink.

Adam doesn’t deserve the dignity of a last name.
He’s got a degree in sociology which i guess makes him a scientist.
Unbelievable! This nutball thinks that the pipeline would carry rocks and there’s a huge danger of a leak spilling rocks.
Yes, but that's because of the way leftists define the word science.

That’s almost as good as the Dem that thought if too much weight was on one side of an island, the island would tip over.

Grijalva is a La Raza Lab ‘RAT. What a jackass.

He put infinitely more time into looking for a Sheldon Cooper lookalike than he did on every single bit of “science” he drooled out.
Interesting to note that in his most recent election run, he ran against a TRUE (female) scientist, . . . and BARELY won.
Wonder if he won fair and square.
Rocks sing.
Therefore, ban Keystone XL.
Makes sense to me. /sarc
Maybe you can answer something for me. This guy, and others I’ve seen, seem to be saying that the pipeline will be moving tar sands themselves. IOW, sort of a slurry of small rocks and oil.
My understanding of the process, however, is that the sand part is separated out at or near the source, and that what will be in the pipeline is oil not greatly different from oil in any other pipeline. Moving slurry certainly seems like it would be a whole lot more difficult than moving a fluid.
Am I missing something here?
You are correct. They will be shipping crude oil separated from the sand at the source. But even if it was a slurry, where would the rocks sink to?? The pipeline will be buried so are the rocks going to sink to China?? Idiots.
And the number of 250,000 jobs created is incorrect also - estimates range up to 20,000 (depending on who is doing the estimating).
Ok. Answered my own question. The pipeline will contain heavy tar sands oil. The sands part is extracted out before it goes into the pipeline.
Which brings up the interesting question of what Raul thought dumping rocks into water was demonstrating.
Thanks. I’ve been trying for some time to figure out why this one pipeline out of the hundreds of thousands of miles of pipelines in the US, is supposed to be uniquely harmful. The opponents are acting like a pipeline is some type of radical new dangerous idea.
Some conservatives went off a similar rail, IMO, about a year ago when discussing a particular large highway project in TX. Somehow it was more horrible than any other large highway project, when to a rational human it looked pretty much the same.
a “scientist”? In this instance “sociology” more accurately makes him a socialist.
