Sometimes there are reasons why such names are give to animals for some reason, but it doesn't mean the people actually believe the animal is practicing a religion. Which is really strange. But this article almost makes it sound like they believe that. Like, what, they saw a snake wearing a yarmulke or something? Very weird.

Jewfish, Florida. Never heard of that. Sounds like punchline of some Borscht Belt joke. My Uncle Morty and I were in a canoe...

Ya, interesting. I know a lot of Yiddish jokes and stories about the Borscht Belt - dad told me funny stories about Henny Youngman and Mort Sahl and others.
