There was once a species of fish called the "Jewfish" ... and there is Jewfish also the name of a place:

Sometimes there are reasons why such names are give to animals for some reason, but it doesn't mean the people actually believe the animal is practicing a religion. Which is really strange. But this article almost makes it sound like they believe that. Like, what, they saw a snake wearing a yarmulke or something? Very weird.
Jewfish, Florida. Never heard of that. Sounds like punchline of some Borscht Belt joke. My Uncle Morty and I were in a canoe...

It’s a big grouper. It got it’s name because the Jewish sailors (and there were a lot of Jewish sailors in the Carribean — long story, but related to not being able to own land) preferred it because it is both good eating and kosher.

So, in this age of PC they're now calling the beast a "Goliath Grouper".
Weird.
I'd think a "David Grouper" would be more appropriate. "Goliath Grouper" should be the "Philistine Fish".
