Video games have come a long way since the days when Atari and Nintendo consoles reigned supreme. Meanwhile, attitudes towards women among a certain contingent of gamers seem stuck in the past.
Case in point: Anita Sarkeesian, a female gaming critic, wrote on Twitter Monday that none of the games teased during Microsofts Xbox One E3 presentation featured lead female characters.

Are there enough homosexuals? Muslims?
Females have led at the voting booth for years and look where we are now.
Waiting for Ms. Duke Nukem...
See? THERE is a game idea. Play the part of Carrie Nation smashing alky-haul barrels.
women are 40% of the gaming market, as a business model its stupid to ignore 40% of your market
It would be nice if most of the games had female alternatives to play but it is nothing to get upset over.
Like feminists.
I was just thinking, the homo lobby will demand some sick game be made.
I remember this blogger- she posted a series whining on and on about how there were no games with positive heroic female characters, only “damsel in distress” characters. Claiming to be a victim, of course. I did notice on her Twitter page that she has no problem laughing at jokes at the expense of white males though- she retweeted the following just this week- “All of this coming this November on a $500 DRM box aimed squarely at straight white dudes with too much money.”. How racist and sexist of her.
When I grew up, the “characters” in video games were sexless paddles, sexless tanks fighting against other tanks or aliens, frogs of indeterminate sex, roadrage drivers bumping cars off the road, etc.
“What difference can it possibly make at this time, anyway?”
I think I’ll write a game about today’s American female. I’m gonna call it OOO Baby, short for Overbearing, Oversexed and Overweight.
I grew up with Ms. Pac Man and that chick in Custer’s Revenge ... must have been tough in the 70s ;).
Did they count all the goofy ass “gems”-like games, plus others like farmville and castleville? Oh, those don’t count, even though 90% of the consumers of these “little games” are women. You don’t need a female lead when most women don’t play games where there is a “lead” to make into a female.
Past: THERE ARE TOO MANY BOOBS AND BUTTS IN VIDEO GAMES! DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
Present: THERE AREN’T ENOUGH WOMEN IN VIDEO GAMES!
Future: WHY DOES EVERY CHARACTER LOOK LIKE MIA FARROW?
But only if the women players want to play women in the role-playing games.
If you could sell a game with a female lead, the game-makers would do so. It wouldn’t take that much extra work to create female protagonists, even making them swappable with male protagonists.
So why would a company trying to make money NOT do something, if it would make money? Are we to believe that Microsoft, a major liberal company who runs MSNBC, the “moving forward” network, is actually sexist?
Why can’t you design your own character? I’m not a game person, other that a few Wii games - but I would think you could design your own characters - like you can in Wii.
I demand a really cool video game with an old, fat, bearded hunky as a lead character.
Custer’s Revenge- Classic!
