An 11-year-old Latino boy whose singing of the national anthem at the NBA Finals set off a barrage of racist tweets earned a roaring ovation in an encore performance before Game 4 between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat on Thursday night.

Ignorance. What race do they think he is? Mexican is not a race, Hispanic is a language group.
My Irish ancestors and their people helped build New York, to a great extent. They were bricklayers, elevator workers, ornamental plasterers and they built St. Patrick gothic cathedral on Fifth Avenue, which, if you have not seen it, do, and please reflect on how it was NOT built by government money nor effort, it ic certainly not and never was a catholic city.
These people were lawyers and teachers in the old country, and some were famine people. They took jobs they could get, as it was inhospitable to the Irish, and one particular aunt said it was well deserved. And the women, generally speaking, made sure their kids were educated.
And they contributed much to the university system, certainly the school system. How many St. Pats schools and parishes are on Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn?
They were not put there by the inhabitants’ tax money, doing the Irish a favor.
There was not this entitlement. It was earned. Right or wrong, let’s not get that mixed up.
Whenever one attends the St. Patrick Day parade in NY, they can see that people of Irish heritage take the United States as their country, and include everyone around them in tat heritage without animosity.
Yet, if you could show me a photo or relate an instance of someone singing our National Anthem in foreign country costume, and then during a time of threat, and sending a child out to do the job, I will be interested in your opinion.
Not until.
Perhaps, as cited on this thread, a pair of lederhosen.
A: Rocky Mountain High School in Colorado. Outrage is building over the fact that students were encouraged to recite the Pledge of Allegiance over the loudspeaker in Arabic replacing one nation under God with one nation under Allah.
Interested to know the difference.
That costume is pretty standard fare for Mariachi bands.
Fine singing. Keep it up, kid.
And, REMEMBER THE ALAMO!
Mexican-Americans who have been here for a few centuries are a huge part of Texas/US history, you can’t deny that....of course it’s a huge part of San Antonio history as well.
Of course the press is going milk everything from what a couple of ignorant morons tweet.
It’s not like he did his own “creative interpretation” of the Anthem, like Jose Feliciano did in the 1968 World Series.
You must have never been to San Antonio! San Antonio is all about being Mexican. He is dressed in Mariachi attire. I love it! If you haven’t ever been there you need to go sometime. Wonderful place to visit!!
I saw a lot of self-righteous people on Facebook with their panties in a bunch over this, ranting and scolding about the evil racists who dare to criticize this little boy, and how it makes them ashamed to be American. Well, I’m sure he’s a nice little boy. And I’m glad he’s not an illegal. But if I were a singer and were invited to another country to sing their anthem at a sporting event, I would not show up dressed in a red, white and blue cowgirl outfit. I would have enough respect for my hosts, and their national anthem, to dress in a neutral manner.
I completely agree with the posters here who feel the child is being used as bait.
Dressed like the Three Amigos? LOL
Somehow I don’t think an American kid of Irish descent who is asked to sing our national anthem for the Celtics or the Red Sox is going to show up dressed like a leprechaun.
I would add that no country in the world has done more to assimilate legal immigrants of all kinds.
And what is our thanks??
A coalition of new citizens and first generation Americans, a majority of whom join with the progressives in this country, to vote to take away our freedom and our sovereignty.
The boy IS an AMERICAN. Who cares what he wears?
That outfit is about as San Antonio as it gets. San Antonio is a wonderful city, love going down there every chance I get.
...and GO SPURS! Beat those Trayvon-Loving Heat.
I know a lot of people of San Antonio, many are of Mexican origin, whose families have been there for generations, they are almost all as conservative as they come, and want nothing to do with the illegals, they resent them as much as we do.
He is part of a Mariachi Band and it is what he wore on one of the TV Talent shows. The kid is cute and sings well. Some Americans are not really white, people have to live with it. I am light haired and blue eyed and one of my grandfathers (the one who raised me) was as brown as the the kid.
Agreed.
The thanks is this arm twisting and propaganda. They, including Mayor Castro, who mugs all over this, and as if he’s not La Raza, use (abuse) an innocent child to force us into shutting up about it.
The whole thing is so shallow.
No one pushing for this massive enabling is considering that we, as a country, 17 trillion in debt, are a veitable melting pot of immigration.
It’s who we are.
You bring up an interesting point.
It's been awhile since I've seen any statistics but I recall that freedom loving, sovereignty loving voting patterns become a majority starting around the second generation.
New citizens and first generation voters mostly vote the other way and I'm not limiting that comment to San Antonio and/or Mexicans immigrants.
You got that right. The last time I was there for a four day stay I didn't hear one person speaking English in the hotel. Even the desk clerks, they spoke English as a second language. I think the hotel was a Doubletree. It was definitely part of the Hilton system.
“The boy IS an AMERICAN. Who cares what he wears?”
A lot of people, apparently.
The newspaper saw fit to ask the Spurs coach what he thought.
It was important to them.
