Both.
The reason they gave was that it restimualted whole-track incidents and was causing some Scientologists to experience psychic distress requiring extensive processing to fix.
Reality, people were spending so much time playing they were neglecting their Scientology studies (and the associated donations!)

Yep, that’s the way to go. A Mossberg 500 home defense special, with an 18” barrel, loaded with #4 pheasent loads at close range, will make a very nasty mess. Just racking a round into the chamber has a unique sound, that will make most would-be home invaders sh!t their pants.
That’s why I like my 1911s for home defense.. When my kids are home, full mag, empty chamber. At ages 7 and 9 they’re incapable of racking the slide.
Not worried about them being irresponsible, they’re well schooled on safety, but it adds a bit of peace of mind.
Semi autos generally get easier the larger the caliber. My sister and mother have a tough time with my 9mm and 380s but both mom and sis can chamber my 45 1911 and XD 45.
