Thief apparently entered home through dog door

SEATTLE, - A Seattle man said a thief apparently squeezed through his home's 15-inch-by-10-inch doggie door to steal a haul of electronics.

The Ballard neighborhood man, who asked to be identified only as Joel, said the thief apparently squeezed through the backyard door for his dog, Macy, while no one was home on a recent afternoon, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported Monday.

Joel said police couldn't find any sign of forced entry and determined the dog door was the most likely mode of entry.

"They didn't come through any of the windows or doors, and so the dog door is the only other opening in the house," Joel said. "It's not big -- so it has to be somebody relatively small and willing to scrunch through the hole."

"They had taken our laptops and our iPad and Kindle and some jewelry," the homeowner said of the thief or thieves.

Police were investigating the incident.

Let ‘em come through MY dog door!!

They’d be met with a very sharp row of fangs from a 75 lbs. snarling pit bull/police dog who doesn’t like trespassers.

I personally have no use for doggie doors. Not only did a burglar get into the home featured in the story; but other critters can make their way in as well. I know someone whose friend lost their two Jack Russell terriers when a pitbull (or two) came into their doggie door (after jumping their fence) while they were out and killed the two dogs.

I let my dog out when he needs to go out. He does not need his own door.

I have a friend that was house sitting this girls house in Ftlaud and had a pet door for the “Kitty”.

We went there one day and opened the door and about 5 cats ran out and the place was cat piss/spray heaven.
She freaked when she got home.no more kitty door.

Two hundred pounds of German shepherd will deter a possible invader. They would also have to climb six foot fences or locked gates.

During the Christmas season several years ago, our neighbor’s house was entered one night and Christmas presents were taken. The tree was in the den, visible through glass patio doors. Apparently the burglar was able to reach in through a dog door, which was in the back kitchen door next to the den, and unlock the dead bolt. The neighbor said her two fairly large dogs came upstairs to her bedroom to hide while this was going on. She found out when she woke next morning.

That happened to me when I lived in L.A. They walked out the front door with the stereo, etc.

Same here.

I need to put up a sign- You can try to come through our doggie door but please don’t bleed on the rugs.

Going through a LARGE doggy door is probably one of the dumbest things one can do

At least the thief in the story squeezed through a small one

If you are going to have a doggy door, you need to have a pet mountain lion who uses it.

I absolutely agree on the NO DOGGIE DOOR! I know a person and a drunk/stoned woman entered through her doggie door. People across the street had a rabid possum enter through their doggie door. We have all kind of critters here and I don't want ANY of them in my house. I have 4 house dogs and sometimes it is inconvenient when I have to come home and let them out but I still do it.
