Making Pizza With Mario Batali and Sons
New York Times ^ | June 18, 2013 | Julia Moskin

Recipe Lab, a monthly feature, invites you to cook with the Dining section. We’ll publish a recipe from a new cookbook for you to try; the following week, the book’s author will join Julia Moskin and readers in a live video chat. This month we’re making a pesto pizza by Mario Batali’s sons; you can watch the video chat with Mario, Benno and Leo Batali here on Diner’s Journal on Wednesday, June 26, at 7 p.m. Eastern time.

Who better than Mario Batali, whose teenage sons have just published a cookbook in his honor, to anchor a Recipe Lab dedicated to teaching children, or novices of any age, how to cook?

“The Batali Brothers Cookbook” includes recipes from Benno, 16, and Leo, 14, and also from Mario, who edited some of his classic dishes into simpler, weeknight-dinner versions.

Mr. Batali has an edge on the rest of us when it comes to teaching children their way around a cutting board, but the principles of learning by doing, showing respect for food, and cooking “on a basic yet thoughtful level,” as he put it, are fundamental.

Mario is a Michelle and Barry Obama sycophant. I have absolutely no use for him.

“The Batali Brothers Cookbook”

What a completely generic boring title. It should have been called “We Can’t Help Our Old Man Likes to Wear Giant Orange Rubber Clogs, But Hey What You Gonna Do?” or “What We Learned About Cooking From Our Giant Ginger Father.”

That picture just ruined my respect for Alton Brown. I had none for Batali, but Emeril should know better than to schmooz with filthy leftists.

She’s the White House executive chef, Cristeta Comerford, hired by Mrs. Laura Bush in 2005. She is a native of the Philippines.

Yecccch. He’s one of those smug limo liberals who did a food stamp challenge, feeding his family of 4 on $500 for one month. If he’s really concerned about poor, hungry people, invite them to eat for free at his “refined and elegant” restaurants. Just another hypocrite snob. But it’s ok for him to be wealthy and exclusive because he supports Democrats.

You get $500 a month in food stamps for a family of four? I can feed my entire family of seven on than amount of money and none of us are thin, including the 2 month old who is on formula. And that $hi+ is expensive!

I have got to get me one of those magic EBT Obama cards!

$31 per person, so $124 a week, $496 a month. And he was soooo hungry. I am sure many FReeper families get by on that or less.

We ate at his restaurant in Las Vegas. Overpriced, not that good and pretentious. I can’t stand looking at him.
