Electronics manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group is putting yet more effort behind Mozilla's Firefox OS, and plans to hire up to 3,000 people in Taiwan with expertise in HTML5 and cloud computing.
On Thursday, Foxconn said it was looking to hire between 2,000 and 3,000 people in order to bolster its research into software. It's looking for software engineers with skills in HTML5 operating systems, HTML5 apps, and cloud computing, the company said.

Foxconn is said to be working on more than five Firefox OS devices, which should cover all major market segments. Although the Firefox OS ecosystem is still dwarfed by Android and iOS, things could change if the new OS is backed by the likes of Foxconn.
It seems that Foxconn is no longer content with building Android and iOS gear for other brands, it wants to become a consumer brand in its own right and Firefox OS is its platform of choice.
Anyone who really wants to go to the “cloud” in these days of the gubmit spying on everything is even dumber than your typical climate change believing liberal.

I foresee a movement back toward totally independent computing, with local encryption of EVERYTHING before transmitting it via the net. And NO public/private encryption schemas...we’ll have to go back to randomly generated keys - transported by non-electronic means to our compatriots. If you use any gubmit approved encryption schemas, you’re screwed. Period.
I have been saying that since 2005 and just get dumb looks. I have always resisted our company’s push to cloud everything.
Amen. I've been saying since day one that "cloud computing" was a dangerous fad.
All this NSA/spying stuff has proven me at least partially correct.
It's your data. Why would you risk sharing it with anyone else, especially the government?

Agree completely.
Meanwhile, Hyperscale computing could largely displace Virtualization in the next few years. Some folks in the industry are calling it “Physicalization”. Others are calling it “Cloud in a Box”. Still a distributed computing model, though.
Here's what they are going to be competing against:
- Google Play/Android is estimated to have 800,000 apps (Jan. 4, 2013)
- Apple iOS App Store recently reported 775,000 apps (Jan. 7, 2013)
- Windows Phone Marketplace is up to 125,000 apps (Oct. 25, 2012)
- Blackberry World is now up to 70,000 apps (Jan. 30, 2013)

Never. They are always connected to the Mothership, and are therefore security risks.
And g(.)(.)gle is always watching you. Android is a phishing expedition and spy apparatus built on a Linux kernel. That alone makes them utterly despicable, not to mention the other abuses of privacy they routinely practice.
I think Firefox OS will be safe and secure, as will Ubuntu Touch. They are truly Open Source solutions with an Open Source philosophy.
How ironic that the Open Source philosophy is the one most likely to protect individual privacy.
