>> had set out traps at his home in Correctionville... took the caged raccoon to the park to shoot it, but instead accidentally fired his .38 caliber revolver into his left leg.
Ouch, The lessons are hard in “Correctionville”.
He should have used .22 CB short and a .22 rifle instead. Works much better.
The Racoon was unharmed.
This story is especially interesting to me. I lost five layers (chickens) a week ago and put a trap behind the chicken door to the coop. Caught me a medium sized racoon and took the cage trap out on the lawn. It was 5:30 AM.
Returned to the still shiny $60 trap at 8 with my 22 to shoot it. It had bent the bars that held the steel panel down and escaped. The good news is that there was a lot of blood.
I straightened everything and reset it. Next time I shoot it in short order...
Shooting a caged raccoon?
Not very sporting of him.
“Knock him out, John!”
So does a hunk of hamburger stuffed with rat poison. Cruel, I know, but safer and a lot less noisy.
Looked up `raccoon’ on wikipedia. Raccoon meat was once on the menu in fine restaurants across America.
My uncle used to say, “If you don’t like ‘em, eat ‘em”. Often went to their house for suppers of raccoon, rabbit or squirrel. Venison or duck on occasion.
I remember the Davy Crockett coonskin cap craze but it didn’t even make a dent in the ‘coon population. The critters are everywhere.
I’ve actually thought about racoon jerky. I’m going to look into it.
I ain’t touchin’ possum, though...
Raccoons are the favorite road-kill in my parts. It's a rare day when out for a drive I don't see a dead raccoon on the highway. Sometimes multiple raccoons like from a raccoon family.
After my husband passed away while we were on the farm, it was left to me to shoot coons in live traps...My neighbor balled me out and said never to shoot critters in a live trap, because of richoet...He had a air gun he’d pump up and stun the critter, dump it out and then shoot it...
ya gotchya dead cat and ya gotchya dead dog
on a moonlit night ya gotchya dead toad frog
ya gotchya dead squirrel and your dead racoon
the blood and the guts they gonna make ya swoon...
(might be wrong on the squirrel it’s been a long time)
LOL. I miss Jerry Clower
“Like shooting fish in a barrel” - an old phrase this moron thinks means “a major challenge”. Pathetic.
