Trick me once and expect me to go along with the next set of problems? Classic Shell already has fixed my broken windows. No automatic updates for me. That is how I got my last virus! I trust windows as far as I could throw obama.

If you don’t have any special software that can only run on Windows, forget Windows and use Linux.
If you have special video, image or audio editing software, or custom-built applications that only run on Windows, then run Windows as a NAT connected virtual guest on a Linux system, behind a solid Linux firewall.
Only connect the Windows guest to the internet once a month, just long enough to get the latest updates.

Darn, I thought I would get in before the Apple/Year of Linux people started doing their ritual rifle in the mouth head explosions because Microsoft was mentioned.

It sounds like all the work arounds I put into my grumpy developer mode installation of Windows 8, as well as the quirks that I did not like, were picked up by Microsoft.

Apps you download from Microsoft's app store will now update themselves whenever the developer releases a new version. Yuck! I want to give explicit permission before any updates. Usually I'll let a few days pass at least to see if others have problems. I had a great blackjack program on an android tablet, but the company which wrote it was bought out and the buying company replaced the good program with their own ad-heavy piece of crapware. Its reviews dropped from 5 stars to 1 star within the day.

Windows 8.1 now lets you work with up to four apps on one screen through a revised Snap feature, depending on the size of the screen on the device you are using. An upgrade to Windows 2.0 functionality.

It's a bit tricky to find
I have been using Win 7 for about a year and I still have that ...
MS should have beefed up XP by increasing its memory accessing, etc. They would have had one great product. Instead, they messed up a lot of things with VISTA and what they didn't break with VISTA, they tried to break in 7.
I have no desire to try 8 or 8.1. I know it would create more headaches than it would solve. Have you fixed the Windows File Manager yet? It has been flakey since VISTA. Do something useful -- fix the stuff that has been broken for several renditions of Windows.

I just got an acer tablet with win8. Jumping from xp to 8 was a big pain. Now that I learned the system I like it for a touchscreen tablet.
For a non touchscreen desktop or laptop it would suck. This was the first MS operating system since win 3.1 I had problems learning.

2) Apps will automatically update.
That is the first feature I turn OFF in most programs, including Windows. It creates more problems than it fixes.
I cringe every time I see 'update' or 'upgrade' for any program. What did it break now? How many programs will it create glitches with? Will it loop into a continuous reboot as several previous 'updates' have done?
