Well as I told you before, my husbands vehicle was broken into in the Home Depot parking lot in Pearland. He wasn’t inside more than thirty minutes... so we aren’t great fans of that area but I really can’t tell you if that area is bad because there are so many REALLY bad areas of Houston that the suburbs aren’t usually even close in the running for “bad area”. I’m really sorry she got hit though - did she have renters insurance?

Well, I hope he went to a good family.

I was notified about him by Adopt A Pet late Sat. afternoon. Even though my husband said he wasn't ready for another dog, I wrote to the agency and they responded to a list of my questions about him. But, they said that another family would have a "Meet and Greet" with the agency on Sunday. Of course they took him.

He was just so appealing that I couldn't resist. I would have gone to the mat about him with my husband, if he had been available.

Red Shiloh is purebred, 2 years old, friendly, loving, and lost his previous family because their home was foreclosed. I just loved his look and his name. I think that he would have made my recovery go faster (enforced walks on leash). He looks like a combination of my last 2 Goldens -- fluffy like my female, Terra, and red like my male, Max.

My next dog is out there somewhere.

He was in Mundelein, IL. I would have driven there in a NY minute, had he been available. My dog trainer used to say that a “pretty face” would get a dog all kinds of undeserved privileges. (She was being sarcastic about my “wild child” Max who turned into the most perfect dog ever. But she mever liked Goldens. She was an English Bulldog afficianado. You can see the jealousy about “pretty faces”.)

yes, she did have it. She didn’t have much stuff moved in there yet. her prized possession was a fuschia Kitchenaid stand mixer and it was still there, but i doubt thieves would have much truck with something like that. she was relieved!

Isn’t Pearland near the area where that cheer leader mom put a hit out on her neighbor thinking that if the neighbor died that her daughter would be so distraught that she’d drop out of the cheer leading tryouts, leaving the field open for her own daughter?

A fuschia Kitchenaid stand mixer is pretty heavy to tote for a thief on the move! LOL.

Oh that sounds like a great mixer! I've never seen one that color -

Back from my vacation and have a mound of laundry to do. Still adjusting to being home but I'm glad, I have chores to do but am taking a few hours to see a movie with my son today.

true, and somehow i doubt that thieves know they are desirable items, to people who cook/bake. i’ve toyed with buying one for forever, and as cool as i think they are and look, i just can’t justify the $300 or it would be.

mel is all about pink and green, just as xsteen is. and mel is a cupcake queen. her sister got her the cutest silver necklace on etsy.com, luckily it was not in with the rest of her jewelery at the apt, it has little silver muffin pan and spatula charms on a silver chain. it was adorable and so fitting for mel.

I always had a hand mixer because I couldn’t justify the $300 for a stand mixer either. My neighbor was selling her Mother in laws stand mixer in a garage sale and offered it to me..... $25. Seriously - it obviously is older and probably has a smaller motor but it works like a charm and when it dies I WILL buy a new one, no matter what it costs. lol I love it.

Antithesis is one of my favorite rhetorical devices - makes me feel erudite, pompous, elitist. Hah! Asyndeton to boot!

I still prize my Harvest Gold one that I bought in the late 1970s. BUT, if you are getting one of the kind with the arms that raise the bowl, make sure that you have a place to put it. That model will not fit under most overhead cabinets. They need to be put on an island, or on a penninsula with higher overheads.

I have to keep mine in the laundry room where the cabinets are higher, and haul it into the kitchen when I want to use it. That’s how I am sensitive to how heavy they are. I should probably replace it with the model where the bowl screws into the base, but mine is still perfect so I continue to haul it when I want to use it.

Price? I think mine cost $250 at a discount store in 1978. With a coupon and a sale, you could probably get one for about that (think Kohls) today. That is actually cheaper, if you consider inflation.

I bought it to bake my own bread, something that I don’t do any more. My husband bought the meat grinder attachment for it about 20 years ago and has butchered many a deer with it.

I know some people hate their mothers-in-law, but selling their stuff at a garage sale is a bit much!

the cabinets are high enough to have clearance under the counter, and i have a lot of counterspace. i just cook far less, and bake far less than i did when the kids were younger, so it would seem to be a waste. i have both a largish foreman grill [which we use often] and a breadmachine on the counter now along with a tassimo coffeemaker and a regular coffemaker etc.
