One of my brothers has made a lot of money leasing horses, wagons and other equipment to the movie industry.

I have nothing to base this question on except for the fact that The Lone Ranger was produced in Hollywood. Am I right in guessing that the plot is basically the story of how a wise, oppressed native American patiently endures his time with a dumb, privileged, intolerant white guy in a mask?

Funny thing happened on the way to the box office, nobody bothered to ask movie goers if they really wanted to see a badly done remake of a classic television show that few under 40 even have the slightest clue about.
In the office where I work at, where most are action movie junkies, I asked around ‘who's going to go see Lone Ranger?’ Not one said they were.
Even Will Smith got more respect from this crew.
But hey! Wait a minute! There's a demographic which could save this movie! Parents bringing kids! Just in case that might have saved the movie, Bruckheimer pulled all the stops to ensuring it was so utterly violent and fast paced that few parents would consider bringing kids.
The paltry $45 million dollar opening weekend doesn't even cover the media buy for advertising of this bomb. And the reason was: No one thought to think of who would want to see this movie.

The American public still wants G-rated family entertainment, even though it too has been corrupted with scatological “humor” (e.g., fart jokes). Not enough people who want to see a PG-13 mess with Johnny Drop mumbling his way through another idiotic portrayal. Clayton Moore & Jay Silverheels remain the definitive duo.

The movie should have been titled Tonto.
No matter the costume, Depp runs like a girl.

Steven Spielberg predicted exactly this in a speech about a month ago at an interesting speech given at the dedication of a new USC Film School building:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/steven-spielberg-predicts-implosion-film-567604
Here is a quote:
“Steven Spielberg on Wednesday predicted an “implosion” in the film industry is inevitable, whereby a half dozen or so $250 million movies flop at the box office and alter the industry forever.”
Whatever you think about Spielberg, his thoughts what this all means for the movie industry are quite interesting—something big will have to change and he has some predictions.

Want a good adventure movie?....Mudd. A well done thought provoking movie about the ups and downs of relationships...Before Midnight. A really hilarious culture clash....Internship.
There are good movies, but they're not given equal time in the cinema frenzy hoping for the next billion dollar blockbuster. A smart movie industry would go for their most loyal audience (if there's anything we can stand)....families with children up to age 15 or so and seniors and other real adults.
PS: The current Star Wars movie is good.

It’s funny I actually really liked the Lone Ranger, I think it’s a victim of negative assumptions. It’s basically Pirates of the Caribbean in the old west. It’s supposed to be corny the best part is the whole over the top ridiculous train sequence with the music blaring.
But I know how bad hollywood is these days and understand big movie flops, I just don’t think the Lone Ranger was that bad. I really don’t understand how they make some of these movies, I laugh at most of the previews.

LOL at the once respected Disney brand.
Just deserts for turning The Lone Ranger into a PC pansy & hiring the talent -challenged mouthy racist moron Jamie Foxx.

“The Lone Ranger” is proof that Hollywood has truly run out of original ideas.
Maybe they can come out with a “CHiPs” or “BJ and the Bear” movie next.
