The Egyptian paper Roz Al-Youssef reported recently about an Islamic version of Cinderella that has been published, in which the heroine and other women wear veils and the plot is replete with Islamic motifs. The book, published by Dar Al-Yanabi, was edited by Masoud Sabri, a member of Yousuf Al-Qaradhawis International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), and was illustrated by Rifat Muhi Al-Din.
According to Roz Al-Youssef, Cinderella in this version is portrayed as a girl who patiently bears the disasters befalling her and asks Allah to help her continue bearing them. She never says a bad word about her stepmother or stepsisters despite their cruelty to her, and the fairies are replaced in the story by a rich old woman.

So what about Ali Baba?
But I can see the outrage. The prince marrying someone who is NOT his sister. The shame of it.
I was disappointed that the prince didn’t turn into a suicide bomber and that the evil sisters were not those evil joooos’...
“And then they threw acid in her face and chopped her head off”
Always a happy ending in Islam
Many cultures have something very like the Cinderella story in their traditions and many more have adopted and adapted it since Disney did it.
Let me guess: Cinderella was sold to the prince at 6 years old, and was beaten for wearing a see-through slipper.
Unfortunately, Cinderella’s three evil sisters don’t like her going out to the ball, and have her stoned, then burned at the stake.
Meanwhile, of course, the handsome prince is a wealthy oil sheikh who ‘marries’ a half dozen Philippine girls, immediately confiscates their passports, then enslaves them and burns them with cigarette butts and/or flogs them with coat hangers every time they refuse to scrub the floors, do the laundry, do the shopping, cook for him, clear the table, wash the dishes, then hump his brains out at the end of the day, when they’re so exhausted they can barely move.
No matter; he’s used to humping camels, which don’t move at all.
In the end, of course, he attaches exploding suicide belts to all of them and ships them off to the United States to die ‘for Allah.’
