Poll: Should Canada buy Detroit?
Global News ^ | July 18, 2013 | David Weisz

TORONTO – Detroit made history Thursday afternoon becoming the largest city in U.S. history to file for bankruptcy. If the bankruptcy filing is approved, the city’s assets may be liquidated in a massive auction to repay the city’s estimated $14-20 billion debt. But rather than seeing the former hub of North America’s automotive industry picked clean by creditors, Global News puts forth another suggestion:

What if Canada just buys Detroit, warts and all?

I suspect if I bought Detroit for a dollar and set fire to the whole city I could sell it at a considerable profit.

After 5 years of Obama, and relatively good government in Canada, the Canadian dollar is roughly par.

All we need is a few weeks of good US government, and we will have the usual.

I like Canadians. Not quite sure why they sold out their freedoms for a mess of stewed potage, and wish them luck, hoping they can recover from that.

I like Americans. Not quite sure why some seem to want to sell out their freedoms for a mess of stewed potage. Wish us luck, and hope we can recover from that.

The problem of Socialism is eventually you run out of other people’s money.

Good point. They deserve a bankrupt city. They probably don’t even realize it.

Rembrandt—

Your comment makes zero sense. Newfoundland is a “have province” thanks to natural resources, has extremely friendly people, and great music.

I’ve heard lots of Newfie jokes—I haven’t heard any Detroit jokes. One more reason to prefer keepind Nfld.
