OH, have you seen those dwarf container raspberry plants they have? I’m wondering if anyone’s thinking of ordering one of those.
Fried. It was a young one. And, as an added bonus, one of the cats got a pesky chipmunk that was tearing stuff up around the house. Donald Duck was right: Chip & Dale were unholy terrors!
As to the drive in, it, too, has a play area, and most people back in & set up chairs, or even loungers. No “buck night”, but one night a week Roy charges $16 a car load, if that is cheaper than regular admission. He always has a G (rare these days) or PG film on first, followed by another PG or a PG-13 or (rarely) an R; then parents can decide whether to stay or leave after the first film is over. Still cheaper than regular theaters for a single film anyway. If he does have an R-rated film, he pairs it with the least family friendly of the other three on one screen.
My resources say that, since they are not being grown for seed, to remove the flower buds, so the energy goes into the tubers, rather than ‘useless’ flowers robbing part of it, resulting in smaller tubers..

For the oilseed, I just took a few hundred from the Ace Hardware “Premium Birdseed Mix”. The germinated just fine, and are growing well. Growing them for our chickens. Most the seed in the mixes mixes is typically ‘live’ seed, though you would want to test germination test by wrapping a dozen or so seeds in damp paper towels for a few days.
BONUS: the sprouts are great in salads or on sammies.

Thanks. I will decide which to plant next spring because I like the giant ones - but they may be TOO giant for me. Unless........I plant them along the one side of my “cottage” shed. They would look cute there - but the deer would likely eat them. Anything inside of the fenced garden would have to be the smaller ones.
Critters have decimated our garden this year. Deer and one nasty groundhog have treated our garden like the neighborhood buffet. We were finally going to have a wonderful crop of brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes. They chewed those down. They’ve eaten our green beans, snagged the zucchinis off the plant, eaten the tops off of our carrots and even eaten the leaves off of the pumpkins. They’ve chewed down all of our hostas and the roses we just recently planted.
Need more fencing.
And a gun.

Actually, since this heat wave is supposed to last another week, I figure I ccan throw designer's gauze over it to shade my plants if they start getting stressed..like in a few hours..
With this weather, mulching is important to keep the root balls cool and moist.

Plant your seeds. Many need the heat to start sprouting.

Mine make all summer long. They sull a bit if the temps are consistently over 105 but as long as you water them they’re real troopers. Pick them very small (pencil lead size if possible or slightly larger) and stir fry with peppers, zucchini, chicken/etc. Yummy.
I'm glad to hear they like the heat. I planted some July 21st. I was surprised they came up in a few days. They're aout 9 or ten inches tall already.
Guess I can plant some more..I'm not really a fan of green beans. I have contenders right now, and usually manage to give them away...or let them sit around until they shrivel up.
Are you still using used carpet between your rows to keep weeds down? I didn't think you used it for mulch, too. Do you?

Just an update. I planted yard long beans along the base of my gonna be a Texas Prepper’s Greenhouse.
It’s only 97 outside right now..but I’m sure it will be nearer to 100 later on..I saw some cute little wrens sitting on the grids earlier, flying around in it..looking for bugs, I hope, and not planning an attack on my tomatoes.
No. I kept the carpet between the raised beds. It’s done a better job keeping grass at bay than the weed barrier I used last year.
