Have never seen the ending but the 2/3 I have seen is quite good.

Jack Warner had seen this as a Bob Cummings movie. Unfortunately, Cummings wasn't strong enough to carry a movie and did his best work in TV in the Fifties.

Reagan acted Cummings right off the screen, and this is one of his very best films.

What is astonishing is that Jack Warner never learned his lesson. In 1966 when Reagan announced he was running for governor, Warner famously said, "No, Bob Cummings for governor, Ronald Reagan for best friend."

Great movie and great acting on Reagan’s part. I think he won his oscar for it. The sordid life of the seemingly common folk in this movie was the idea behind Peyton Place.
