xshub has done that before, but not routinely, maybe it depends on the car rental agency. Like, he’s “mr big” on some airlines and a nobody on others, depending on which he flies on most frequently. I think i mentioned that karim sat in first class on the way to JAX, while his wife, kids and parents sat back with us in regular coach. xshub said, i could have done that too, and i replied: YOU KNEW BETTER!

oh i will never drive a car ever again. NO interest in sitting that low to the ground. When xshub had the jag, i never saw what the thrill was, i felt like my behind was dragging on the street! i will have SUVs here on out. in fact, we don’t own a car. Of the 5 vehicles parked at our house we have a 4runner, lexus suv, Rav4, highlander, and the FJ cruiser. xsbaby is still wanting to try to pass the test for her learners permit. i have no idea which would be easiest for her to learn to drive on. I guess maybe the Rav.

A feature now is power folding side mirrors.

Me, I’m like “if I’m worried about that tight of a situation that often, then something has gone wrong with my life.”

Yes, the RAv 4 would be best. Especially if they still make the kids parallel park and do a three-point turn to get their license.

Did we not discuss this? VA doesn’t have a test to get your license. I was shocked my own self when xsteen took drivers ed. You go to DMV take a computerized test for the learners permit. the first part is identifying 10 signs. This is what xsbaby has had trouble with. if you miss ONE you fail. So she failed twice last summer, is going to try again soon. The signs are ridiculously obscure for one thing, the one she missed i would have missed too. It has people with briefcases walking and it is for SCHOOL ZONE. She picked the one with kids in the pic, but no that play area or something. so they are not intuitive in any way. So after you pass the sign part, you proceed directly on the same computer screen to the general knowledge part. She has been acing this on the practice tests, so we will see. Then once you get the learners permit, you take an accredited drivers ed class with in car and classroom instruction and at the end of it, the drivers ed teacher gives you the provisional license until one comes in the mail. Then you have to go to a session in a courtroom with a judge who reads the riot act to the assemblage, about how the parents can take away the license at their discretion etc and that driving is a privilege not a right.
Now this may all change now that she is over 18. We tried to go on Weds but she needed proof of VA residency. 18 and under, my drivers license was good enough to show that for her, but at 19, she needs to establish her own residency. She needs two forms of ID also, passport and SS card. She came up with her voter card to establish residency, but we went without the SS card so will try again tomorrow.

xshub has had that on his last few, and he does fold the mirrors in to get into our garage. if you don’t park in your garage none of that matters, but with 5 cars in the household, at least until xsboy goes back to collge, we need two in the garage at all times.

while it is slightly more expensive, tell him to factor in the cost of a hotel overnight and a rental car, when figuring out the cost. Last year you said you guys drove all night to get to Newark? Skimping on the airfare, but having all of these other attendant costs isn’t cost-effective.

The Rav would be my choice for a learner, too.

The suspension of my 300ZX is totally trashed from the country roads, and the front airdam is so destroyed that it had fallen off a couple of times-the whole body is junk from rock hits from big trucks on job sites-I’m trading the engine and transmission to my compadre for some house pretty-up. It just does not make sense to drive a car out here-half the roads are only nominally paved, if at all...

Thank you! I’m glad there are no “masses” outside the city-people out here practically cross themselves to keep off the mal de ojo if someone says his name...

what kind of house pretty-up? how’s your plan coming?
i had our contractor here today, going over the final plans for our kitchen re-do. He’s going to order the cabinets tomorrow, and said 2-3 weeks for them to come in, he anticipates starting in Sept and figures we will be out of a kitchen for 3-4 weeks. With xsboy back to school in a few weeks and the rest of us dieting and eating mostly salads we should not be too inconvenienced. we have a small refrigerator, sink and dishwasher in the butlers pantry downstairs, as well as a microwave. Oh and the foreman grill, which is mostly what i use to cook chicken.

They have privatized the licensing basically, if you have to go to an accredited driver’s ed school.

That sounds more expensive.

What do poor people do, or do they have subsidies?
