Yikes—that’s awful!
I was mortified when my wife got a baby shower invitation that carried the admonition: “Be a dear, wrap in clear.”
But this is a whole new level.

No—they want to move the gifts along, assembly-line style, and opening up wrapping paper takes time. With plastic wrap, the gifts are immediately discernible. It is a wonderful time-saver, but it seems a bit tacky.

OMG, am sending that to xsteen. She’s attending her first friend’s wedding, a college roommate from UD, who is getting married in Oct. The ceremony in Dallas is civil, they are getting married in Rome in church on 12/21. Of course, no UD kids are going to have $ to pony up to attend the religious ceremony, AND who is going to want to spend that kind of $ to go that close to Christmas. Odd all the way around. Both bride and groom did go to UD and did the Rome semester the same time xsteen did, though they were not dating at that point.
Anyway, i did tell her about need to cover the cost of the meal x 2 since she’s taking her boyfriend. But the Dallas ceremony is most likely going to be tea and cookies, AND she’s paying to fly there and for a hotel, so we decided $100 was more than adequate to spend on the gift for that wedding.

Well, there are things people might think about and then there are things people are crass to actually say.

If getting married, you might wish that you receive lots of cash gifts to help defray the costs. But to actually ask for such upfront, or to be offended by non-cash gifts, or cash in insufficient amounts is just unbelieveably classless.

Your budget should not be relying on everyone paying their own freight.

A bit? I thought the idea was to enjoy opening up the presents, not to move it along as quickly as possible.

The Kenyan-in-Chief styles himself audacious; yet in reality he is merely contumacious.

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

that is for dang sure. we had several people come totally empty handed to ours. we bitched between ourselves but that was that. In neither case was it lack of funds, it was just thoughtlessness.

Yeah, if unwrapping my present to you is too much of a hassle, I can think of a way to free up your time.

No class at all. I had to click the links too and agree with the person who said you should not throw a party you cannot afford and expect your guests to pick up the tab. That’s common sense.
