In a bizarre incident, a man in the US while attending a gun safety class was accidentally shot in the arm by an instructor.
Michael Piemonte, from Ohio, was attending a concealed-carry class with his wife Alison in central Ohio's Fairfield County over the weekend. Such classes are required for anyone wanting carry a concealed weapon in the state.
There were 29 students in the lecture-type class, Piemonte said. He was sitting in the front row.
While the instructor was demonstrating a self-defence techniques, the gun went off.
The bullet struck Piemonte in the arm. Even he did not realise what had happened.
New law allows schools to teach gun safety to first-graders.
"Everyone was in shock," Piemonte was quoted by CNN as saying. "It took me a couple of seconds to realise that I had been shot."
The 26-year-old said he's in good spirits. "I'm just glad my wife did not get hit."
Piemonte said the instructor has been calling him regularly to check in.
"It makes me feel good that he is so concerned," he said.
The Fairfield County sheriff's deputy who responded to the scene described the shooting as accidental, The Columbus Dispatch newspaper reported.
Piemonte doesn't have a gun yet, but was planning to get one this year. He still plans on doing so.
"It was the first time I've been shot," he said. "And hopefully the last.

Col. Coopers gun safety rules:
1. All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. (For those who insist that this particular gun is unloaded, see Rule 1.)
3. Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target. This is the Golden Rule. Its violation is directly responsible for about 60 percent of inadvertent discharges.
4. Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified.

No. Guns don't ever so-called "go off." They go "Bang!" when someone—in this case a careless idiot—pulls the trigger.
What on earth does this mean? Sorry, guys, the instructor needs to be fired.
Why wasn’t the instructor identified? He’s the one who fired the weapon.
Guns are like muslims. Always treat them as if they are loaded, and ready to explode and take your head off.
Live ammo in a classroom? The instructor is an idiot.

By the way, get rid of that moron “instructor” before he kills somebody in his “class”.

Roger that. Unless you are instructing on the range and facing the target there shouldn't even be ammo in the room of a gun safety class. I don't even allow ammo in the room I clean my guns in. My philosophy is that over caution prevents indvertant gunshot wounds.

I agree 100%. Idiots should be identified and ridiculed.
Same here. An abundance of caution can head off a problem before it can become a problem.
