Raw Garlic Slashes The Risk of Lung Cancer by 44 Percent
Science World Report ^ | Aug 12, 2013

The humble garlic, a staple ingredient in many eastern curries, offers a lot of health benefits. A new study says that garlic reduces the risk of lung cancer.

A new study conducted by researchers in China revealed that consuming raw garlic twice a week reduces the risk of lung cancer by 44 per cent. Furthermore, even smokers benefit from consuming raw garlic as their risk of contracting lung cancer drops by 30 per cent.

The researchers from Jiangsu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, China, concluded this based on the analysis of data of 1,400 lung cancer patients and 4,500 healthy adults that was collected between 2003 and 2010.

Raw garlic has a chemical 'allicin' that is released when it is crushed. This chemical not only reduces inflammation but also lowers the damage that is caused from free radicals to the body cells, reports Fox News.

In the survey, the participants were asked to provide details about their eating habits as well their overall lifestyle. They had to mention about their frequency of consuming garlic as well as their smoking habit, if any. It is not known yet whether cooked garlic would offer the same effect, source redOrbit.

A study conducted earlier at the University of South Australia showed that garlic lowers the risk of bowel tumors by one third. Several other studies have proved the effectiveness of garlic in repressing colds and inflammation.

No one would allow smokers to get close enough to buy cigarettes after consuming much garlic.

I’m not surprised.

Sulfur has been recognized like forever as an essential nutrient, but still no RDA requirements have ever been established.

Yet there are tons - more, even megatons of anecdotal reports (and some studies) that show benefits from high sulfur containing compounds like the ones present in garlic and onions, as well as MSM and DMSO.

DMSO was widely reported for a while as being the closest thing to a miracle drug there was!

I eat lots of marinated garlic. It’s not cooked, so I hope it’s just as efficacious! Chompin’ on some right now.

Dimethyl sulfoxide, a solvent used to clean vacuum cleaners that has the peculiar property of being incredibly penetrative to human skin. It was (and still is, as far as I know) used in topical application to treat pain and inflammation.

There is the danger that it is a little too effective in some cases: any sort of contaminant present on the skin is also going to get a ride into the body. That's not always a good idea.

When those cancer cells in the lungs get a strong whiff of the raw garlic, they say, “This host eats awful food. No thanks. We’re outta here!”

Yeap. DMSO can be very nasty. Damn near killed my Grandfather by carrying contaminants through his shin to the blood.

Just to be clear, I want to point out that DMSO itself is almost totally non-toxic.

What almost killed your grandfather was the contaminants.

I’ve used DMSO quite a bit for minor arthritis pain. I ALWAYS wash the area I’m going to apply it to before I put it on. I ALWAYS use a clean, washed out spray bottle to apply it. I NEVER let it come into contact with any other chemicals, soaps, bleaches, plastics, etc. After I apply it and leave it on for ten or fifteen minutes, I ALWAYS wash it off with plain warm water.

Never had a problem.

And it works quite well. Pain goes away almost immediately.

Allicin, one of the most potent active ingredients in garlic, has been shown to cause apoptosis (cell death) in some cancers. (really enormous link to a pdf file, that I shortened.)
