DAYTON, Ohio (WTVN) -- The organizers of Bacon Fest in Dayton are apologizing after twice as many people than expected showed up, leading to long lines and food shortages.
It's no secret that bacon lovers are passionate and they took their frustrations about the festival to the event's Facebook page. However, the event's organizer, Shannon Morgan, says she heard more positive than negative feedback.
"We will learn from our mistakes and every year get a little bit better with it," said Morgan, who is president of the Miami Valley Restaurant Association.
Bacon Fest included 16 restaurants which featured bacon-related dishes and drinks. Organizers had expected a crowd of 10,000, but they estimate that 25,000 showed up. The event was held at a local park. Morgan says next year's festival will have a larger footprint, but won't be in a different location.
"With any first time event there are problems, especially when you have a crowd more than double what you had anticipated," she said.
Morgan joked that had they anticipated such a large crowd the weather would have been horrible and no one would have shown up.
"You just never know," she said.
