Bing: More on James Spader | More on 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron'
This is actually very cool and unexpected news. Spader, who started out as part of the Hollywood "Brat Pack" back in the '80s, has transitioned into an older character actor specializing in creepy and sometimes outright sinister parts. He may be best known in recent years as Alan Shore in the TV shows "Boston Legal" and "The Practice," and was seen last year as a shady political operative in Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln."

ping
kind of a wuss isnt he?
Lemme guess, his character will be a Bible-thumping Republican businessman who is a) raping the planet, b) plotting a race/culture war, c) on a mission to offer the infidels a “convert or die” option, or d) all of the above?
Ultron is a self-aware AI.
I didn’t realize until yesterday that he has lost his hair.
I think he’s sexy in a depraved kind of way. Or maybe I just mean that Alan Shore, the character he played in Boston Legal, is sexy in a depraved kind of way. He was a great foil for Shatner, whom I love.
His monotone, calm voice would do well in this role.
Plus, he plays one of those adversaries that you couldn’t guess the mood of (Supernova, Wolf).
I can live with Spader as the villain.
What I cannot live with is Ben Affleck as Batman. Completely unacceptable.
LOL!
Shows my mindset (and lack of comic book knowledge) — I was thinking of “The Avengers” is terms of the 60’s TV series, not the Marvel superheros.
I thought the end credits of Avengers hinted towards Thanos as the main villain to come next?
... and my reading comprehension, as it clearly says “Marvel” in the excerpt. I’ll go lash myself with a wet noodle now...

The original Daniel Jackson. Can’t be all bad.
I read somewhere that Ben Affleck has been cast as the new Batman.
Gag me with a spoon!!
He will make a good cartoon-movie villain.
So that means Robert Downey Jr. can finally get his revenge on Spader for “Less Than Zero.”
Good point!
All I remember about that movie was how hot Jamie Gertz was.
