The type of gut bacteria one has may be an important influence.

The reason so many things use high fructose corn syrup in so many things is because your wonderful and benevalent government purposefully keep the price of sugar artificially high.Mostly what I drink these days is unsweet iced tea, coffee and water. Simply cutting soft drinks out of my diet did amazing things weight-wise until my body found a new equilibrium point.

“Experts”? Do they mean liberals with an agenda?

****”Sugar is a toxin,” he says. “Pure and simple.” ***

Sounds like what I read in the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC today. An issue dedicated to the evils of SUGAR!

This is true. If we paid the ‘world market price’ for raw sugar, a 5 lb bag would cost about a dollar.

http://www.indexmundi.com/commodities/?commodity=sugar

The soft drink mfrs went to using HFCS back in the 60’s because the sugar became too expensive, due to limits imposed on imports (http://www.fas.usda.gov/itp/imports/ussugar.asp), tariffs (read taxes) and the powerful domestic sugar industry lobby (read campaign contributions - http://www.opensecrets.org/industries/indus.php?ind=A1200 ).

Yes to the four items to delete from food stamps: I think it USED to be that way. A family on food stamps can eat healthy foods and for less money just by changing that one thing.

There are a lot of good conservatives who are dying/going to die of obesity and everything it entails, and much of that is being caused by fatty livers caused by the Standard American Diet. God didn’t program our bodies to take our political leanings into account. Too bad about that, but I’m not gonna start nitpicking what God does. That leaves out alot of armchair experts who confuse politics and nutrition, however.

“There are a lot of good conservatives who are dying/going to die of obesity and everything it entails,”

As smokers will tell you, everybody dies of something. It’s what you do before that matters. My point is, the liberals call things a war or an epidemic as an excuse to take control of our lives. I’m against that. BTW, had my fat content measured yesterday. It’s 18.6% and I’m 59. I’m trying to get it down to 15. To give you a reference, at 18% I have a six pack. It’s not awesome, but it’s there. (The rest is pretty ugly, though.)
