The damage from studded snow boots is part of the charm, Ja? Well, maybe it's my Swiss blood talking. :-). It's funny, you'll see old photos of those rifles at the cantonal shooting festivals, all fitted with diopter target sights and pasted with competition stickers - and the stocks are sometimes just as torn up as the ones we've seen in the past ten years.

I have several red laser pens and practice eye-hand coordination, everyday. Since taking a combat/self-defense course from a Lt (now Chief) in Southern York Regional Police, I don’t bother w/ 3-pt Weaver Stance; I fast draw and shoot from hip. I’m hitting 1” groups of 3 in center mass, groin and head consistently. I have a sometimes painful left rotator cuff, so it’s only used when I do ‘weak hand’ shots, same draw routine.

Also, regardless of the furniture, the metal condition on these rifles has been uniformly amazing. I keep an eye on the Swiss Rifles message board, and I think that what is available now is pretty much the last large shipment that was available to the importers. Future availability will come from individuals in Switzerland selling K31s to brokers. IOW, if you've ever considered buying one, get it now.

One other thing I wondered is how that adhesive would hold up under tapping the dovetailed blade into the front sight base... it’s a pretty tight fit.

When I taught Clint Jr how to shoot skeet I had a foot trap and threw 500 clay pigeons in about a couple hours as fast as he could reload. It melted the front beed off his factory 20ga Rem 1100. Metal-to-metal adhesive sounds fine for deer hunting but I wouldn’t trust it in a hot dove field on opening day.

I occasionally shoot faster than deer hunting, but surely not nearly once per second! :-)
I think I’m going to give the adhesive a try... it seems like a no-lose situation. If it doesn’t hold up well, I’ll either have the front sight brazed or I’ll scrap it and keep the bead.
As a side note: in its pre-A1 configuration the 590 was sold and used as-is, with a bead sight, as a combat and LE shotgun. Other than shooting slugs at 50+ yds, a good bead sight may very well be adequate. Target acquisition is definitely very good with just the bead. That’s part of my quandary; I’m hesitant to do anything permanent (like brazing) that renders the bead useless, UNTIL I have some experience with the GR.
