Microsoft Corp. released an emergency software fix for Internet Explorer on Tuesday after hackers exploited a security flaw in the popular Web browser to attack an unknown number of users.
The software maker said on its website it released the software, known as a Fix It, as an emergency measure to protect customers after learning about extremely limited, targeted attacks that made use of the newly discovered bug.
Microsoft said the attacks took advantage of an undiscovered flaw, or zero day vulnerability in industry parlance.

Whydja think they called the ‘Explorer’?! Sheesh!
Yes and they pushed it out without checkingg to see if I had auto update on
I seem to have suffered some sort of Browser Attack in the last few days. My Firefox started covering over everything I did with popup ads for Mozilla products and surveys and such until I deleted Firefox and cleaned out all the residue from the popups and Firefox itself. I still use the Mozilla SeaMonkey browser to good effect. I could not imagine getting that kind of trash from Mozilla/Firefox and wonder if it was some sort of spoofing thing.
I’ve got a better name for Explorer: “Don’t Use It”
I’m a Linux guy. I use Firefox and Chrome. If and when I have to use Windows I’m always real careful with IE - aka “virus loading app.”
That is strange, I never got any ads from Mozilla Firefox.
Of course I use Ubuntu Linux.
I keep trying to load Linux and so far have been unsuccessful on three computers and on clean formatted discs as well as to virtual machines, etc. I get it started, either from online or a disc and at some point it always just stops and refuses to go any further. If my son were closer than Germany, I could probably get it okay. I really would like to put Windows in the past. I do not have a natural bent for computers.
Seriously.
I have never seen anyone have so much trouble even just loading Linux.
Hey Shadow, are there certain computers that won’t run Linux?
Are you trying to install a 64 bit version on a 32 bit machine? or something?
I remember Netscape 1.22
My ISP ($100 for a year of dial-up, lol) had to mail me a floppy with the browser for my old computer. (The thing had a 100 MB hdd)
I had to install the 33.6 modem, a sound card and RAM (it had 2 MB and I got it up to 28 or 30 or something)
I really liked that old computer. I remember having to delete a game to play a different game. Tank!, Gunship2000 and others.
You’d think that after all these years, they could get Internet exploder out of beta.
I an sick of Retina/patching so the government can have their back doors to Microsoft.
bump
Ubuntu 12.04 is very stable
I hear good things about Linux MINT
I read that OpenOS4 is friendly for Windows users.
but there are hundreds or thousands of different Linux distributions out there.
12.04 (Precise) is LTS. I believe they’ll support through 2017. For an open source OS, that’s pretty amazing. I LOVE Ubuntu. Used to be a Fedora die hard, but I’ve since come around to Ubuntu. I was getting tired of the distro release schedule with Fedora.
OpenOS4 is okay, but I’ve read from some RHEL programmers that it’s a mess “under the hood.”
I suspected it might be, they seemed intent to make it “look” like Windows (no matter what?)
Yes, Ubuntu is pretty remarkable. And it has not kept them from working on different versions either.
I am being given a new firefox browser right now. hhmmm
should I cross fingers?
