In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

aegis (EE-jis) noun
Protection, support, guidance, or sponsorship of a particular person or organization.

Example sentence:
"The French hope that by April an African force will have come under the UN's aegis.
--"The Battle Moves to the Mountains; The Economist (London, UK); Feb 9, 2013.

Etymology:
From Latin aegis, from Greek aigis (goatskin), from aix (goat). Aigis was the name of the shield or breastplate of Zeus or Athena in Greek mythology. It was made of goatskin. Earliest documented use: 1704.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

When things used to be under our Aegis
America’s word was prestigious.
Now as our “leaders” boast
Our reputation is toast,
While all that they do is egregious…

Richardson to Indy?

Are you trying to parlay for Clowney, or Bridgewater?

I don’t know what the mad regime is doing.

All I know is I heard the anguish of 15,000 season ticket holders as they all dropped their tickets at once last night.

So this Sunday they are trying to host a Pirates game in the afternoon and then the Steelers at night. Telling all the Steeler fans to please not show up before 6PM and asking all the Pirate fans to please clear off toute de suite.

Classic cluster-in-the-making. Nightmare scenario: extra innings.

Yep. I would decline tickets to the game.

They are talking about closing the exits from the highways into the area from 4-6 so no fans can come early. Which means the highways will get clogged and they will have to open them.

When Kenny Chesney played here last summer, they were supposed to only be able to come 5 hours early (standard tailgating rules). But so many people disregarded that that they had to open the lots up early.

Thats insane....i hate these effing Baseball teams.

They had a similar scenario, in Baltimore where the Ravens had to give up a home game, because the Orioles were playing.

Rex pointed out that they play 162 games so moving the baseball game was less a hardship, causing Buck Showalter to whine to the media.

Hell, they could do a doubleheader on Saturday?

Baseball fans dont really tailgate, and clearout pretty quickly.
