Word For The Day, Buctober 1, 2013
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
mickle [mik-uhl]
-adj
Archaic great, large, much
[ before 900; Middle English mikel < Old Norse mikill; replacing Middle English michel, Old English micel (see much); cognate with Old High German mihil, Gothic mikils, akin to Latin magnus, Greek mégas]
A more immediate-and less expensive-thing to do might be to send in the hidden cameras/recorders to these centers to document the confusion, rudeness, bogus explanations, screw-ups, careless treatment of personal information, and all the other madness of this total fuster cluck while it really looks apocalyptic...
I believe Hobbes is referring to the fact that at age 24, if you don’t have an income above a certain amount, but want to go to college, you can qualify for a Pell grant, subsidized housing, food stamps and possibly other forms of income.
The Five showed bammer speaking today saying they have 150 different languages available at the gov office in case you need help signing up. 150. Seriously -
Precisely.
It truly would make more sense to work for a few years after high school and live at home to save money - then go to school on the governments dime when you are 24.
Much like those of us whine about Republicans not fighting fire with fire, we should be doing the same societally.
Conservatives start gobbling up Gubmint dimes, that well will dry up quickly.
My daughter partook of the Pell grant, as well as income, school loans, gadgets and such-she bragged about taking the money and when I cautioned her to remember these things were part and parcel of her student loans, she said she’d been told by her advisor that they were not, and anyway, she she’d have a 60K job right here in Texas waiting as soon as she graduated...
When she called last month she was still jobless, her “green” degree useless, at least in the southern states-and was with her hubby-who has found carpentry work where his family lives in SC-and she has loans due right now on all the freebies...
Just why, if you are an American citizen, would you need any language but English? That is some really stupid advertising if you are trying to attract the working class here...
LMAO, my 8th grader went ballistic when he saw that on the news.
