Flames that engulfed the front end of a Tesla electric car near Seattle also burned in the vehicle's battery pack, making it difficult for firefighters to extinguish the blaze, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.
In an incident report released under Washington state's public records law, firefighters wrote that they appeared to have Tuesday's fire under control, but the flames reignited. Crews found that water seemed to intensify the fire, so they began using a dry chemical extinguisher.
After dismantling the front end of the vehicle and puncturing holes in the battery pack, crews used a circular saw to cut an access hole in the front section in order to apply water to the battery, according to documents. Only then was the fire extinguished.

that’s one hot car!
Big ones can be dangerous, like a 5 gal. can of gasoline.
Will this bode well for Fisker since Tesla is it’s main competitor?
Just wait until it’s a Natural Gas Tank.
Fisker is dead, gone.

“The liquid-cooled 85 kilowatt-hour battery in the Tesla Model S is mounted below the passenger compartment floor”
Really? Wouldn’t that be like having the gas tank mounted below the passenger floor?
guess they missed fireman school the day they taught how to put out electrical fires...
Tesla Motors battery pack are made up of thousand of laptop size batteries. Their batteries are small and don’t over heat the same way other electric cars battery do, which use super large batteries
You’d think they would know not to put water on it.
Actually in many cars the tank is forward of the rear axle adjacent to the rear seat. That’s the part most likely not to be deformed in most crashes.
LOL!
Fisker's words to Tesla, "Karma's a bitch!"
After finish reading the article, I don’t see how that accident diminish the car’s safety in anyway. The fire was caused by an accident. It didn’t simply ignite by itself. Its still the best car on the market imho
Tesla won’t die the same way Fisker Karma did, because Tesla actually make good performance cars, while Fisker only make good looking cars with low performance
Toyota tried for years to get lithium batteries to function in the Prius but the high heat from the discharge/recharge cycle was a problem.
Boeing didn’t get the memo and had hot batteries on the 787.
Ralph Nader has no comment
technology problems have technology solutions.
I regularly see gasoline, diesel, and CNG cars that catch fire.
They all have batteries as well. They all blow up pretty good (CNG can go boom really good), but depending on conditions so can gasoline.
Someone will buy Fisker though, so technically speaking they aren’t dead yet.
