With a ghetto car repair, there's no passion, no creativity. It's like using duct tape to reattach a bumper or putting saran wrap over a broken window.

A geniusly ghetto car repair is different. It's an artistic approach to avoiding paying for a car repair or upgrade. It's finding a solution to an automotive problem using stuff from around the house. The results aren't elegant but they're clever. It's MacGyver meets Rube Goldberg meets People of Walmart.

Guy I worked with (not a ghetto type) decades ago had the first ghetto repair I ever saw:

Trunk lock busted, so he just drilled and bolted on a gate hasp with padlock.

I know a guy that actually wanted to do the heater/fireplace thing in an old econoline van.

Asphyxiation did not bother him, but when I pointed out that he wanted to build it over the gas tank, he finally scrapped the plan LOL

Ha! Got that beat. I repaired the headlights on my daughter’s car using nothing but a rolled up leather glove, one tennis ball, and an old doggy toy. No duct tape. Should have seen the look on the mechanic’s face during state inspection.

A guy I know fixed the rusted out frame of his pick up truck by welding a pole from a street sign to the frame. It was one of the thick flat poles with the round holes in it. He drove it for over a year like that.

I drove an Opel Kadet about 25 miles without a fuel pump once. Taped a 2-liter bottle of gas to the radio antenna, and ran a length of 1/4" fuel line from that to the carb.

Had to stop twice to disassemble it, use the fuel line to siphon gas out of the tank to refill the bottle, and then put it back together, but it got me home.
