‘Hump Day’ Phrase Irritating Some Teachers at Connecticut School
Fox News ^ | October 04, 2013

Students at a Connecticut elementary school have been irritating teachers because they imitate the Geico 'Hump Day' commercial featuring a camel that walks around an office and asks workers what day it is.

Some students at the Vernon Center Middle School reportedly disregard what day it is when they use the phrase, and use it on days that are not technically 'hump days.'

I never liked it. Until I realized a friend of mine was really annoyed at it.

Some of those teacher were missed by the shutdown. Is this all they can do is harass kids about a trivial issue?

Well they’re just uptight. The school where my lovely bride teaches includes the hump day thing in their announcements on Wednesdays and the kids join in. They know how to have fun.

I guess they don’t know what hump day is! Maybe a teacher can point that out to them?

Oh, the crime! It's now a three-day suspension for calling other days but Wednesday Hump Day!

One of our female relatives is a very plain and often salty spoken gal.

One of her sons, still single in his 40s is an industry where he often works 7 days aweek.

She texted him on Wednesday this week and asked how it was going on hump day.

He texted her back and said with his work schedule, there was no hump day.

She texted back, “Since you have opted for the single life, you probably have only “No Hump” days.

As of noon today, she still hadn’t got a reply from her no humper son.

Reminds me of my time in elementary school way back when. My classmates and I started using the word “gay” to describe most everything. Good, bad, or neutral it didn’t matter. We used the word every chance we could get. We overused it so much that we finally decided en mass to stop. A few days after we quit the principal had an announcement over the PA telling us to stop using the word. That resurrected and guaranteed it’s use until the end of the school year.

“Hump Day” at school hits just a little too close to home.

Those teachers are being forced to work far too hard. They need some free time.

When I was in middle school and high school some of the popular shows on TV at the time were Taxi, WKRP, Welcome Back Kotter and of course SNL.

We used to come to school and repeat the punch lines of the jokes.

I remember one entire week when a bunch of us went around saying “Has it ever dawned on you that it might be your uvula?” and “Knock knock; Who’s there? Babs’s Uvula” and “It would behoove ya to care for your uvula”.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCLPH3fnsDs

We thought this was hilarious for about a week or so (probably because like "Hump Day", uvula sounds sort of dirty even though it isn't) and then we moved on to something else probably as equally annoying to the adults. (Hint: the more annoying the adults think it is; the more hilarious kids will find it).

Then there was “Candy gram….land shark….” and “What does a yellow light mean…..slow down….w…h…a…t d…o…e…s… a… y…e…l…l…o…w.. l..i..g..h…t m..e…a…n? Slow down!”

Sure it was juvenile but then again we were…juveniles. : ),

I remember one day when a kid raised his hand to answer a question in biology class, something having to do with birds, and not only did he get the answer wrong, but spectacularly wrong and someone from the back of the room blurted out, “"As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly".

Not only did we all crack up but even despite his very best efforts to keep a straight face, so did our teacher.

I also remember my 11th grade Algebra II teacher who was a great teacher and a guy who appreciated a good practical joke as he played a few on us that year. It was a very small class as it was mostly comprised of seniors taking it a second time and needing to pass in order to graduate and we all sat toward the front of the classroom. But one day near the end of the school year, we planned to get to the class early and we all sat in the very back of the room and when Mr. Walters walked in we sang the Shower to Shower commercial song: “A sprinkle a day helps keep odor away….” Of course, Mr. Walters didn’t smell bad and that wasn’t the point, it had something to do with some sort of joke he had told in class month’s earlier. He laughed and laughed and then he made us take our usual seats and went about his job of teaching.

Then I remember the 80’s and ‘“Where’s the Beef?!”- my nieces and nephews loved that commercial and repeated that phrase ad nausea for a few weeks until they got bored with it and us “adults” just started ignoring them.

FWIW, I’ve heard a few “adult” folks at work repeating the Hump Day line from the Geico commercial. And just the other week when a co-worker was complaining that a certain manager never answered her emails, I just had to do the “knock, knock, knock, Penny, knock, knock, knock, Penny, knock, knock, knock, Penny”. (I can’t help it; I guess I’m still a teenager at heart.)
