About 160,000 people nearest the plant were ordered to move out and the government established a 12 mile compulsory evacuation zone after an earthquake and tsunami in March 2011 caused reactor meltdowns and contaminated water, vegetables and air.

Thank you for referencing that article nickcarrawayo.

Note that land in Japan is scarce. Japan has long since rebuilt Hiroshima, for example, accepting the health consequences with respect to accomodating a growing population.

accommodating a growing population

How many decades since Japan had a growing population? I think it is rapidly declining now.

It’s my understanding that using plants can treat irradiated land works quite well, but they cannot be consumed.

Very bad nuclear contamination is now pooling in certain critical areas of the Pacific Ocean. Fish taken from these areas are too hazardous for human consumption.

Because the people in power want to control everything and favor depency on nuclear power and oil as a means of controlling the people. As Ben Franklin said after the Consitutional Convention: "We have given you a republic. Now it is up to you to keep it."

The people in power are addicted to "money" . . . Our broken "two party" political system is totally addicted to big money as well.
