Kids may be highly influenced by athletes’ endorsement of unhealthy foods

It’s hard to watch any sporting event without seeing a commercial featuring a star athlete such as Peyton Manning or LeBron James.

Now, a study published on Oct. 7 in Pediatrics shows that a lot of the foods they are promoting are unhealthy, concerning pediatricians because adolescents are among their primary viewers.

“Professional athletes wouldn’t endorse tobacco today because it would be a liability for them,” lead study author Marie Bragg, a doctoral candidate in psychology at Yale University, told the Globe and Mail. “We’re hoping one day that the same would be true for unhealthy foods.” …

Right. The same leftist academics that gave us the “unhealthy” foods in the first place via Marxist theories on farming and food production are now trying to fight against them? I think not.

Athletes will be allowed to eat - and endorse - only cabbages from Moochelle’s WH Garden.

I think there are worse things than a hamburger to worry about, if we’re going to worry about celebrity influence on children.

I think it’s the parents responsibility to set the rules, not the government.

They did a study and found that advertising works? I’m sure the ad companies and product manufacturers are shocked at this new information. They probably had no idea.

Good. Maybe I can sue the Bob Richards estate because even though I ate a lot of Wheaties when I was a kid, I never grew up to be the shortstop for the Milwaukee Braves or quarterback for The Green Bay Packers.
