Have the Park Rangers always been jerks or are they being threatened to be jerks or lose their jobs/pensions?
I say this because it seems to me that some of them seem to be behaving over the top as if they have been spooked with their jobs/pension or their families have been threatened via NSA collected data.
Just a deep feeling that has been building every time I hear a story about the behavior of Park Rangers and a "Feel the Pain Government Shutdown"....
Are the Park Rangers acting over the top intentionally as an invitation to media that is scream "Please Please, Check into why we are behaving badly, they have us 'over the barrel' and we cannot say anything sop we are going to act out on our illegal orders to draw attention tot fact we have been given illegal orders..." type of situation...
I don't wanna feel like I am defending their bad behavior, but imagine if you were a Park Ranger and they have threatened you from on high that you are to make the people feel the "pain" of the shutdown and if you don't so this to their satisfaction they will fire you and remove your pension or they will audit you and your immediate family to death using the sadistic tool box of the IRS. And if you tell ANYONE where the orders came from they will make YOU feel the PAIN....
What would you do? I would lash out in an attempt to get attention or to draw attention for someone, anyone to start looking around on why I was acting so harshly...
I don't think whats going on is anything darker than, if they don't toe the line they'll get canned.
They have a union ... getting canned for having a spine doesn’t ring true. Americans are not going to take the “I was following orders” line favorably ... sounds too much like the Nazi goon’s excuse.
They aren’t qualified to hold any other job, which means they’ll do anything for money.
REFUND THEM!!
Remember the whining about snowmobiles at Yellowstone? Then the Algor solar powered bathrooms that they built and/or solar-retrofitted in shady areas?
Thinking the same thing. Scary. Following orders against the moral grain and honor of America.

They might be becoming like many police in the USSA, morphing into jack-booted thugs. I noticed it around 12+ years ago, before I left the country. I have no idea what started the trend. Maybe it is what they see on TV and in the movies, or what low-life types choose for a job. They have gone from “serve and protect” to harass and subject.
I’ve personally known a lot of outstanding NPS rangers in my time. That changed when the environmentalist wackos took over. Now the majority of them are freaks who can’t find a real job with their Environmentalism Degrees. What’s bad is that the global cooling/global warming/”climate change” fiasco didn’t work out for them either.
I believe they got heavy into affirmative action/political persuasion in hiring, starting about 40 years ago so they aren’t the same outdoor types of 50 and 80 years ago.
The reports from some of the closings/blockades suggests that they are operating under “do this or be fired”.
Give a liberal a badge.
The definitive book on what went seriously wrong with the National Park system is Alston Chase’s book titled Playing God In Yellowstone.
It has dozens of pages of footnotes, yet is so readable I regularly assigned it to bright high school students.
It defines why the environmental movement and Park Service went bad.
The book is a Must Read for anyone wanting to understand what happened and from that determine what must be done.
These people follow orders and if ordered to put us in concentration camps the vast majority will obey without question.
I’ve never been to a national park in the USA, but overall my experience in state parks and provincial parks is that all of the staff go out of the way to make sure that you enjoy yourself and stay safe. Park ranger is the kind of job that you only do if you love the work; unmotivated drones tend to look for jobs closer to home.
And if you didn’t resist with every bone in your body I would have serious doubts about whether to rescue you from the concentration camp.
People who aren’t willing to fight for their own freedom don’t deserve to be free.
Park rangers are like Nazis, but in shorts.
